Colored Pencil + Mixed Media - Adding Fluid Acrylics to Colored Pencil

ADDING FLUID ACRYLICS TO COLORED PENCIL

In this lesson, we’ll be focusing on enhancing colored pencil with fluid acrylic. Sarah will be working on Strathmore 500 series Mixed Media Board that was toned with fluid acrylic. She demonstrated how to tone boards in lesson 1, so please check out last week’s video if you need a refresher on this process:

PRINTABLE INSTRUCTIONS:

SUPPLIES:
OR
► Artist-grade colored pencils
► Fluid Acrylics
► HB Graphite Pencil
► Kneaded Eraser
► Paper Towels
► Plastic containers or bowls for water and mixing colors
► Coated white paper plate (to be used as a palette)
► Painters Tape

OPTIONAL SUPPLIES:
► Sketch Paper (to draw out composition first, then transfer to mixed media board)
► 3B or 4B graphite

Sarah, you do all of that so well. I've been drawing with Prismacolor Pencils for 2 years now and painting with acrylics and watercolours for 3 years. I am sort of self taught and very grateful for videos like this one. I never thought of mixing them all together the way you do. The result is beautiful. I was just using a blending pencil for the pencils and I liked the result but it was a LOT of work and I went through so many blenders. I like how you did the fur. And the background colour is such a great idea. I always buy white paper because I just can't afford the coloured papers, but this is such a wonderful alternative. Thanks again.

Question: how do you feel about using workable fixative for colored pencils, in order to get some texture back, when layering a lot with pencils and acrylics?

Which fluid acrylic can I use? I find only metallic colors.
