At 2:55 you say the field of view is different for the two lenses both at 25mm. How do you know when the kit lens is at 25mm? Is it because the 25 is next to the index mark? That is probably an approximation. I would say you have 25mm when you have the same field of view as the 25mm prime, not when the 25 is on the index mark.

Having just purchased the G7, your videos are educating me on the various aspects of lenses for this camera. You are really saving me time and money. You're showing me the kit lens is really pretty good all around. Thank you.

I'm just now learning more about photography on a g7 and this is the sort of info that really helps me understand all the technical stuff in practical terms.

Panasonic 25mm f/1.7 back on sale on Amazon today! Just got one for $147.99, down from $247.99 just yesterday!

5:05 I was expecting the 25mm 1.7 to destroy the kit lens and that did not happen at all, besides, I'm afraid with the lack of stabilization the 25mm 1.7 could be useful only for photography and useless for videos unlike the kit lens which does have stabilization. Should I buy this 25mm 1.7? or should I invest more money and buy a low light lens with stabilization? thank you, great content.

Using it on Olympus with IBIS the 25mm kills the kit lens at Stabilization.

I'm halfway through the video and I want to say that this is an amazing video. You are covering all of the details needed for people to get a lot more confidence in choosing the lens they go with. I was looking for a comparison between this two lenses and I stumbled here by accident. Maybe you should change the title or add a few more words so people can find this video sooner. Great content.

I got the G7 early with the 14-140 kit. As a newbie I thought this would be the only lens I'd ever need. Now, two years later, I've tried a bunch of different lens. My favorite is the Sigma 16mm/1.4, followed by the Panasonic 25mm and the Laowa 7.5mm/2.0. All of these are super sharp and easy to use. Like how the Laowa on infinity focus turns the G7 into an amazing point and shoot.

At 2:30 you have the same ISO and the aperture is 1.7 versus 5.3. (5.3/1.7)^2 = 9.7 so you should need nearly a 10x faster shutter but you only have a 2x faster shutter. Did the sun go down?

f1.7 at ISO 1000 would give a far less grainy result and more details than f5.3 at ISO 2500. The difference would be huge, wouldn't it? I currently have the kit 12-60mm on g85 which gives up to f3.5. Are you saying there wouldn't be much difference in exposure, let's say between f1.7 and f3.5? was planning to get this 25mm lens for low light.

Great video, really helped. I was on the fence about getting the 25mm to replace kit lens on my GX85 because for video it's not so great indoors.... outdoors it's amazing, indoors it's meh. I almost pulled the trigger until you said the 25mm is a little tighter than the kit lens at 25. Before finding this video, I had my kit set to 25mm to get a feel for what it would be like which I already felt was a little too tight for the videos I'm trying to shoot (my kids) but I figured I could probably work around it because I felt it was right at about my threshold focal length. When you mentioned it was tighter that was all I needed to know and absolutely no one else, at least from the videos I've seen, has mentioned that. I know I can opt for the 20mm but spending the extra $ is out of the question. At this point I'm probably just better off investing in better lighting.

according to this, for me, the 25mm is not something I would need right now, apart for the low light capabilities which I seem to sort out using different means. Thanks for this review, another clip weel done / documented.

I'm interested in the 12-35. Should I go v1 or spend more on v2? I use a G7

I have the G7 with the 14-42 kit lens. I want to have shallow DOF to show an entire person head to toe with a blurred background. Ofcourse the BG would be at least 100' away. But im thinking, maybe i need the 45-150 lens to do this ? Im buying that lens only to achieve this shot. Should i go for the 25mm f1.7 instead ?

Hi! I been watching a bunch of videos about what lens is better than the other. Would this lens disappoint in group portraits? Would you prefer this lens or a 45-150 MM?

Do you know why the 25mm 1.7 price went up to 250 recently? just a couple of months ago they were 150ish. And a very helpful video btw, cheers.
