The Constitution was created by a convention that met in Philadelphia in May 1787 to amend the Articles of Confederation, the nation’s first constitution.

This is Video 2 of the 35-part "The Constitution EXPLAINED" series created by iCivics and the Center for Civic Education to explain the key aspects of the U.S. Constitution in everyday language to make our nation's founding document accessible to everyone. "The Constitution EXPLAINED" was made possible by the generous support of Kenneth C. Griffin.

Just because something is called "weak" did not mean that it was totally incompetent... If there are no more slaves today unlike when they drafted the Constitution that assumption under which the 1787-Constitution was drated is no longer valid..

Northern states legally allowed slavery and operated the slave trade, so they weren't against slavery.

Revisionist History! This is not what happened, and it’s not why it happened, and it’s not what they achieved! If you lay the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution of the United States side by side, you will understand that there is only an amendment by addition, and only 1 substantive amendment, and that was to change the apportionment of taxes on the States from an assessment of the different forms of property to a per capita apportionment based upon an enumeration, the same enumeration that they established to apportion representation each State was entitled in the House of Representatives.

The addition of a Republican Form of Government to balance the legislative process to protect the interest of both the large and small States in the collective decision making process was established by Article 1 of the Constitution of the United States, however, the original confederacy, a discrete democracy, was retained as Articles 2 & 3 of the Constitution of the United States are are a carbon copy of Article 9 of the Articles of Confederation.

The establishment of legislative checks and balances, separation of powers between the Republican Form of government and the confederate form of government, and the equity is per capita taxation, formed a “More Perfect Union”!

That’s the real history!

They should have added term limits and ban government agencies.
