That revlon color silk is actually one of the more gentle black box dies, and honestly the only one I will use on my hair but if you’re doing it yourself, Demi permanent is always a better option as far as avoiding possible damage!

It’s good to know I’m not the only person with an emergency stash of box dye, though mine is of the auburn dye I always use as my main color when I’m not going between random unnatural colors.

Yup. I use Colorsilk and LOVE it. It's inexpensive and leaves my hair super soft. I have salt & pepper (far more salt) and use a medium ash blonde. It lifts the "pepper" to a light brown and colors the "salt" ash blonde. For three bucks, I get an actual highlight effect in one step.

I use this dye as a base. It's been the best color I can find (medium ash blond) that matches my color. I then use a toner on top. I get so many compliments on it. My entire family is hair dressers & I've learned different techniques from them but I've used this color for 6+ years.

I use this brand too, the bright auburn mixed with the medium auburn. It's the only mix that actually hits my natural red. I've done the salon and everything, and it's never quite there. I have a very unique red color naturally.
