How long does Bars Leaks Head Gasket Fix Last? How long will Bars Leaks Head Gasket Fix Work? These are questions we all want to know so In this video I show what has happened with our car a little over 2 weeks after we used the Bars Leaks Block Seal Permanent Head Gasket Fix. I have used both Bars Leaks Stop Leak and Bars Leaks Head Gasket Fix. We examine if the car is still leaking, and we also check the engine oil to see if there is any evidence of antifreeze or the head gasket fix in the oil I give my opinion on how well Bars Leaks Head Gasket Fix works. I talk about why I chose to use Bars Leaks Head Gasket Fix instead of paying around $2000 for a Head Gasket Replacement at a local auto mechanic shop.

I used Bar's Leak with graphite head gasket sealer twice in my 1988 Chevy G30's 350 V8. First time was in 2011 when coolant steam cleaned the combustion deposits off of the combustion chamber to end up covering the spark plug electrodes in 4 cylinders and sent exhaust gas into the cooling system causing over heating. I followed the directions but did use the entire contents of the bottle so plenty would be available to plug up future leaks. That initial treatment held up for 7 years and 15, 000 miles until a second treatment was required in 2018. Was hauling a full load in back plus was pulling a fully loaded enclosed trailer on the interstate when the engine began to lose power and overheat. Found bubbles in the coolant again so stopped by an Auto Zone to dose it in their parking lot. I used the entire bottle again to get the desired results. That second treatment also held up for 6 years and around 15, 000 miles. Eleven days ago my perfectly running engine with 300K of use suddenly refused to idle when started after being parked overnight. I found and fixed 4 vacuum leaks which only made my dash vacuum gauge work again. Went ahead and replaced the factory IAC valve and ICM which did help it idle a bit longer before stalling. Then I tested the TPS by placing paper shims cut from a hard cigarette pack between the idle speed screw and the throttle cam until it would idle smoothly after being started. I had the radiator cap off so I could look inside for exhaust bubbles. Didn't see any so reset the cap before allowing the engine to idle for one hour to recharge the battery. The vacuum gauge showed a steady 19 lbs of vacuum. Turned it off before going to bed only to have it refuse to idle in the morning. Bought and installed a new TPS which made it idle after starting if the paper shims were in place. Now the vacuum gauge pointer gyrating between 17 and 13 lbs of vacuum. I opened the radiator cap to find nothing but bubbles on top of the coolant. I'm going to replace the thermostat tomorrow morning before giving the engine a third treatment of Bar's Leak.

I think each treatment held up for as long as it did due to driving like an old man to save gas. Was pushing the van at 60 to 65 mph on the interstate to avoid getting ran over when the head gaskets began leaking again. Eleven days ago I gave the van an Italian tune-up on the interstate after the second tankful of gas with fuel system & fuel injector cleaner brought new life to the engine. It brought the combined city/hyway mileage up to 14 mpgs so ran it on the interstate for 50 miles cruising along with ease at 75 mph. I think that loosened up the graphite plugs which finally gave way after replacing those failing components. It go back to running normally after the third treatment. Their graphite treatment didn't contain sodium silicate like their new & improved formula that uses carbon fibers instead of graphite so don't what to expect. It's supposed to seal off the head gasket leaks for good so guess I'll have to wait to see if it does as advertised.

It's better to put the bar's leaks directly into the radiator - don't use the pressurized overflow container to add the product. It's best if it starts out mid-way down into the radiator for the first temperature cycling of the entire system. It's important that the thermostat be fully open for 5 minutes with coolant circulating at normal operating temperature (185F to 205F, depending on the model).

I was so happy for 1week. bye bye my love.

Does anyone know if you can use Bars Stop Leak multiple times? It was applied to my vehicle and it stopped the white smoke immediately…. However that lasted a few hundred miles and now the white smoke started to return. I just need the get the car up and running for another week so I can get it in the shop for repair. Thanks I’m advance to anyone who can help with this question!

You are giving inacurate advice when saying you should never remove your overflow bottle cap while the engine is running. It is correct you should never remove a cap that is presurized regardless of whether the vehicle is running or not. (unless you are David Fryberger from Road Kill) Not all overflow bottles are presurized and many can be opened and filled on a hot running engine per the manufactures manual. You should always follow your owners manual for your car before listening to some duffus on you tube. That said this video is accurate in all other aspects and the stop does work in a lot of cases. It does not work on all leaks and is stated as such by bars leak or the maker of the product.
