One of the best espresso 101 videos I have seen. Excellently done and without having to have a phd in barista I can understand it all.

I appreciate your videos. They're artistically well done, and you capture the intimacy of brewing coffee at home beautifully. I appreciate your ingenuity on simply using a scale to make your brewing effecient, less waste, and above all surperior flavor. Stay caffinated my friends ☕️

To that I would add the Aieve Bellows and their Hopper gasket set both only total $15 and really help with retention.

Yah, this is best way to dial in espresso. I used to keep all my beans in my separate grinder, it loses freshness over time. So keep my beans vacuum sealed and dial in 18g for every shot.

Don’t have the same machine, use the Cafe Roma but upgraded to bottomless non-pressurized 51mm and man is DAYS differnt!

The taste between pressurized and non-pressurized is so different

It is better to put the ground coffee on the scale. Sometimes part of the coffee is stuck in the grinder and then it turns out that you put 18 grams but you only got 17.5
That's why I put the scale under the grinder to check that all the coffee has come out

never got into espresso, I do pour over
kind of jealous of the toys but I do love my coffee's anyway
and I do use a digital scale to measure my grinds

😮 I thought you started the timer as soon as you see the coffee flow/drop, am I doing it wrong the entire time?

Pays more for a machine that automatically does parts of the process that you choose to do manually yourself anyway. You could get the Bambino or another cheaper machine and weight and time everything. For people like me, the auto features is why I bought it. Just the right balance of automation and hands on. The auto features are good enough for me, and still way better than a Nespresso or something.

Actually there is a manual feature where you can just hold it on the button and then release it when you’re done and then release when you’re done

What’s the attachment on top of your handle / where the coffee goes in?

Sorry, im confused.
I think you should hit the timer as the first drop of espresso hit the cup.

Also
ratio 1:2 by 18 grams dose = 36 not 40..

Won't you get a variation in grind size and consistency if there isn't the weight of other beans pushing down on the ones ground in that dose? "Popcorning" Won't the differences in retention without the weight make it hard to control the output as well?

Absolutely but the breville grinder has so much retention so its accuracy isn’t great.

No mention of yhe crazy retention of the grinder? i bought an special hopper to purge and get the right amount. I weight the grams in and out to see thr accuracy 😊

I have the sage barista pro and constantly use all those methods alongside puckscreens and wdt but I always come out between 20 and 24 seconds at which the shot stops pulling, I've tried different grind sizes and methods but still fail

I always count when the light flashes for the timer. It flashes in second intervals
