I was a care giver to a 36 year old black man. He was the sweetest person I have ever worked with. I found it strange that his mother was always very cold towards me, she wouldn’t give me a house key, or leave the door unlocked (a common practice in my line of work) she would angrily open the door for me and walk away without speaking to me. She was home while I was there, but would not come out of her room during my 4 hour shift. It took about 3 months for her to get over the fact I was white. She finally sat me down to tell me what happened to her son, I had no information other than he was paralyzed on 1/2 of his body. He did tell me that he’d had a stroke when he was 29.
The details are awful, let’s just say Mom and I both were crying after she shared her story of learning in one day that her son had cancer, and another deadly disease. She saw how affected I was and told me the truth. She shared how much she hated white people. She didn’t have any stories personal to her, this was like “transfer rage” if that’s such a thing.
But she then admitted that I had been the best aid they had been assigned thru Medicaid/Medicare. Usually they were lazy and would stay on their phone the whole time. We began having a good conversation about once a week, my goal was to show her that we aren’t so different, and most people, regardless of skin tone are decent people, like 80/20. We even got into a conversation about the murder rate in the black community and her attitude towards it was shocking. “You won’t understand, but it’s just part of our journey” yup, it’s ok if your child is murdered by someone that lives in the same environment and conditions that you live in, it a moot point. 😮So genocide is ok as long as it’s other 16 year olds that murdered your child? She was right. I do NOT understand. She said it’s a right of passage for girls to have a baby by 16 and boys to have been incarcerated at the same age.

Black on Black murder will not stop until Black children have parents that teach them to respect life. That needs a proper family unit where Black Fathers live with Black Mothers. One parent is not enough.
