Painting Scharnhorst

This is the KMS Scharnhorst from Warlord Games. It is a 1/1800 scale resin model with white metal fittings for the upper superstructure, cranes, and main turrets. A quick to build and easy to paint gaming miniature. This is how I painted it.

I heavily customise my own Scharnhorst because I just didn’t like how the model looked. Which is a shame because I really like Scharnhorst - especially her later war look with her more pronounced cinder screen atop her funnel alongside her frankly beautiful Atlantic style bow.

So, for mine, I ended up using some modelling putty to give her bow that flare - using Gneisenau’s model as reference - alongside ordering the sprues for the Bismarck and the Deutschland-Class two pack from Warlord to both swap out Scharnhorst’s funnel for Bismarck’s and her low-detail main gun turrets for the ones you get with the Deutschland-Class two pack.

And voilà! A late war Scharnhorst!

(Also, just because I now had four 15in gun turrets from Bismarck, I decided to give Gneisenau - whose turrets are as equally as bad as her sister’s - her planned retrofit. Waist not, and all that.)
