I'm a teacher who is starting their education degree next year. If you have the option of getting real life experience before you start college, do it. I have 4 years of volunteer teaching experience and just started a paid teaching job. Teaching is very hard, but if you're a patient person who really cares, it's worth it.

One advice I want to give new education majors is to get fieldwork experience before deciding to follow this path. I and my peers started off with such a big heart for students. Then I started having friends leaving the major, and I myself started regretting choosing this major the more I learned about it each year. But I was too far in. After student teaching in my 5th year (bc California requires another year for credentialing), I really felt being a teacher wasn't for me- I'll do good at it, but my sanity will be eaten alive... though the kids are so darn adorable. Shadow a teacher for a bit. See if you like it. And if you do, heck! We need more good teachers out there, so git good, learn your stuff, and go for it!

Before you go into teaching, you should definitely try contacting an old teacher and having them mentor you for a year I did that for two years and it’s what taught me that kids are different now, but I still want to become a teacher

i am lucky to have parents that are teachers, and they have let me teach my own small art lessons during the years, and that made me decide to want to be a teacher

Its a smallish degree but it would be funny to see an Hospitality one, the classes for that degree end up being classes that you just go on cruises and make and drink beer and wine for 3 college credits each 😂
