Germany could face early elections as coalition government fights over economic policies | DW News
Показать описание
Germany's Finance Minister Christian Lindner has triggered another dispute in the country's ruling coalition government that observers fear could lead its collapse.
That's after the leader of the neoliberal Free Democrats (FDP) sent his Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck a raft of new economic proposals.
His suggestions include slashing welfare benefits and removing climate regulations, both of which are strongly opposed by Scholz's Social Democratic Party and Habeck's Greens.
Lindner claims that his document wasn't intended for publication, but observers say that it's yet another sign that the three-way coalition is deeply divided and could soon fall.
The new coalition strife comes just one week before the budget for 2025 is scheduled to be presented. The conservative opposition is again calling for early elections.
