Understanding what an ECG reading is and how to interpret it for clinical practice is an important nursing skill. Being able to identify normal sinus rhythm is the first step to recognizing abnormal rhythms.

Learning to Read an ECG: 8 simple steps

These skills begin as a student nurse and you build on them as you continue through your practice. This video is about ECG Components and an 8 step process to the interpretation of an ECG, Lead II interpretation

Step 1: Assesss atrial and ventricular rhythm
Step 2: Count the atrial and ventricular rate
Step 3: Assess the P wave
Step 4: Calculate the QRS interval
Step 5: Assess the T wave
Step 6: Calculate the PR interval
Step 7: Calculate the QT interval
Step 8: Assess the ST segment

The eight steps will take you through the entire cycle of depolarization and repolarization of the atria and ventricles

This video, so far, was the easiest way for me to interpret an ECG strip. Thank you so much for this video.

Just purchased KardiaMobile 6L for my 85 yr old father. He has heart issues and was in AF a few months ago. Trying to learn how to read the results and this was very informative and easy to understand. Thank you so much!

Great video. I went to doctor because I had heartburn few months back and doctor asked me to take an ECG. Heartburn was cured from the medicine he gave me, but he also said that day there is something called u wave variation in my ECG (I really don't know the specifics) and I might need to see a specialist.
