Understanding what an ECG reading is and how to interpret it for clinical practice is an important nursing skill. Being able to identify normal sinus rhythm is the first step to recognizing abnormal rhythms.

These skills begin as a student nurse and you build on them as you continue through your practice. This video is about ECG Components and an 8 step process to the interpretation of an ECG, Lead II interpretation
Step 1: Assesss atrial and ventricular rhythm
Step 2: Count the atrial and ventricular rate
Step 3: Assess the P wave
Step 4: Calculate the QRS interval
Step 5: Assess the T wave
Step 6: Calculate the PR interval
Step 7: Calculate the QT interval
Step 8: Assess the ST segment
The eight steps will take you through the entire cycle of depolarization and repolarization of the atria and ventricles
