Nice cook! A ball of aluminum foil works great to scrape/clean hot grates clean. I have been using a mapp gas torch or a heat gun on high to light my lump for over 20 years. Works great, easy to control and no added flavors. also the bottle of gas will last about a year depending on how much you grill. Cheers.

I couldn't get the Char-Griller heat deflector here in Canada, so I went on amazon and ordered an 11 inch grill grate, picked up a 9 inch pizza stone. The heat deflector is definitely the key to maintaining steady grill temperatures for hours on end! Of course, my pizza stone is wrapped in foil to prolong it's life. Grilling = no heat deflector. Smoking or indirect heat cooking = MUST HAVE heat deflector

I have the heat deflector stone but it seemed to put the fire out. I’ve had problem keeping the fire going without the deflector.

I bought on Amazon a metal deflector wrap in foil eased to clean! Yes too much direct close flame/coals!

Whats the biggest brisket you could put on this Jr? Im thinking about ordering me one if these. I usually make me a 10-15lb brisket

I broke my old pizza stone into pieces just to make a deflector 😂 bbq over pizza was the choice

How long were able to keep temp on this grill? I am concerned the fire box is too small to hold enough wood for a 3.5 pound pork butt cook.
