Quick & Easy DIY LED Fixtures // Basement, Garage, or Attic!

Another Lighting video, Travis? Yes! This time I'm adding some serious lumens to my basement. Let's be honest this space really needed some attention in the lighting department. When we bought the house the entire unfinished part of our basement (~1,000 sq ft) was lit by a couple of sad incandescent bulbs and 2 haphazardly hung fluorescent fixtures. With an upcoming project to transform part of that space into a gym coming up, I knew that now is the time to make the upgrade.

There are lots of lighting choices out there, I could have used the screw in LED fixtures I recently put in my garage, but I opted to go with the Barrina 4' LED fixtures that I had previously put in my shop in Texas. The biggest reason for doing this was to keep the light fixtures up as high as possible so they won't be in the way when we're doing gym things!

Barrina fixtures are great because they are cheap, put off a ton of light, and are very easy to put up. It took me about 2 hours total to completely redo the lights in my basement and that was including hardwiring the lights into my existing junction boxes.

I've got to say that it's totally worth it and I couldn't be happier with the results! Don't let a project like this intimidate you, just go for it!

Just added these to my garage that is also my workshop about a month ago and the difference is amazing! They have been on for sometimes 12-13 hours a day with no issues.

I saw these in your other video and immediately bought them for my garage/workshop. I love them. I didn’t realize how much the previous poor lighting made me not want to go out there. I’m currently moving to a new home and, when I settle in, I’m doing it all over again. Cheap, easy and awesome.

One additional tip I would make is that the bare led can give a bit of a glare (was really annoying on short ceiling where my eye would catch it even when not looking up). To combat this I got some diffusion film and it really helped.

Replaced my fluorescent fixture with a set of these my third bay garage shop. Perfect lighting. Easy install. I used the wiring for the fluorescents to install an outlet box, which kept the lights on the light switch.

Based upon your shop video where you added them to your garage, i did the same thing and have loved every day since. The small two car garage was only being lit by ONE tiny light bulb and now has SIX 4' LED lights. The install was simple and was a fraction of the cost of buying them from a big box store. Thanks again for the recommendation and keep perusing Shop Greatness!

For a smaller space, or even faster install, get one of the adjustable LED sets that just screw into the socket. You usually see them in garages.
They come in nice bright (5000K) color. And various amounts of lumens.

I put up the Barrina 4' LED Fixtures (6-pack) & what a difference from 4 florescent fixtures. I only installed 5 in my shop, but what a difference. The 6th one was put up in the garage. They all work great & the light is so much better now...

I purchased and installed eight, eight footers for my two car garage a couple months back (10 and a half foot ceilings), and am very pleased with them. No issues. No dead lights on arrival. I approve this product.

These lights are awesome! After I saw your first video about them I immediately bought some for my basement workshop. It has made a night and day difference! Especially important for filming so I made sure to do that as soon as I could. Thanks for the tip and the motivational videos!

Perfectly timed video for me. I was just talking to my wife this weekend about how we could get more light fixtures in our storage room in the basement. I’m now jumping over to Amazon to order those lights and I think that will be my Saturday project this week. Thanks for another great video!

Last weekend I replaced three old flickering fluorescent lights with four 4ft LED lights! Great improvement! But the brand you used look better with the two rows of lights. Still for under $50 I am very happy. And I can daisy chain some more later for those far corners.

Thank you for your channel!

Love these! The exact same ones I have in my shop. The brightness you get is insane. And the ease of installing multiple different ways is a nice option, too.

Convinced and purchased! Thanks for the instructions and inspiration! I think that was a perfect illustration of the basement - everyone has experienced a basement that is just not bright enough. The before and after was fantastic. I can't wait to get these mounted in my garage!

I added Barrina lights in my shop, and it turned out so good I replaced the lights in the garage as well. Love those things!
