Gait is a complicated topic affected by bone length, upper spine posture, weight, hip, knee, ankle, foot flexibility and strength. Many people walk with external foot rotation. I always thought it had to do with deep6 muscle tightness which potentially is caused by muscle weakness or tighten.
This comment section is quickly filling up with opinions and anecdote that may or may not have accurate reasoning for each specific anecdote much less the whole pattern.
Gait is a very complex topic.

The key is to stretch and strengthen external rotation to balance out internal rotation flexibility and strength. I’m so glad this channel addresses that w sitting is a myth I’m very impressed ❤

Holding up terrible qualities shoes as proof that you go through shoes fast is a take.

I'm a middle aged man and I've incorporated w-sitting in my stretches this year because my hip range of motion is garbage. 😂

But staying Hypermobile (EHLERS DANLOS or Marfans etc) can result in continued W sitting and EDS and connective tissue issues cause hip and joint issues themselves!! ❤

I think of course there is no "forbidden" posture. however, there is such a thing as a default, and if a kid finds it easier to W sit, because he can't stabilise with hips externally rotated, it might be worth it to remind him every once in a while to adapt that sitting position without making a big deal out of it.

Youtube shorts would be so good with more videos like this, accurate information with sources and you actually learn something from watching

At 38, I still sit in a W because it is still comfortable. I’m also hyper mobile, so it’s just par for the course.

I am going to be 40 next year and I still sit like this and I don’t have any problems whatsoever

I used to have this exact same problem. All my shoes looked just as bad as hers. The thing that mostly fixed it (I still struggle with my left side a bit) is an intro ballet class. It taught me to be mindful of my entire posture spine, hips, knees, and feet. As I was mindful of my posture and tried to apply what I learned, even outside of class, new shoes that I bought started wearing evenly and I stopped having hip pain which I was already developing in my early 20s. Physical therapy is probably a better idea. I didn’t go into ballet wanting to fix my walking problems it was just a side effect.

It was never an issue about hips, it's about knee valgus, especially with girls.
