give us this rework for the standard game. The 2 types of docks gives the possibility for a variety of new civ bonuses and water balancing, the ram ship can be something like a boarding ship to fit the timeframe. Water maps could be actually interesting to play with this system and its no longer just dock spam mass fires into galleons. The military dock only in feudal and beeing a different building that can be scouted makes decision making more important

I do hope they include these new water mechanics and units in the rest of AoE2 civs.

Very nice! Also all the new ships look very pretty.

I think you missed the Heavy Lembos though?

The best water combat I've ever seen is still Rise and Fall. You had different ship types, and units could physically board them. These ships could ram one another, fire projectiles with archers or siege engines, and attempt a boarding with infantry to capture and convert the enemy ship. However, I don't think it would be possible with the AOE2 engine.

Another good mention is Rise of Nations, especially for the transport mechanic. After researching a certain technology, you can simply right-click from one island to the other. Your units will path through the water and transform into transportships when they move on water. Once they reach land, they would return to their land unit form. Water maps on AOE2 can be very static and hard to push because of how hard it is to transport and land.

Regardless, they are different games, and AOE2 has a very long history and an old engine for drastic changes. I hope this was at least a good read for some.

The trash ship idea should be incorporated into AOE2. If I recall the Tomislav custom campaign has a trash ship.

You missed an important, if difficult to notice, aspect of one of the new ships. The dreadnaughts actually provide an AOE attack speed increase aura, so even if you aren't attacking buildings having one around is good. No, it does not stack.

Ramming ships don't make much sense in the normal AoE2 civs. Medieval ships and renaissance ships didn't ram each other.

Rome At War will bring about a fun water balance

I think these special mechanics, stuff and etc, Devs may be teating waters to slowly implement it into general aoe 2 civs

This mod looks great. And if they do expand it to include more classical / antiquity / iron age civs they should make the barbarian civs have absurdly weak navies. This isnt multiplayer focused so we don't need balance.

So I think if there is ever a ranked multiplayer with these new civs, it needs to be contained between them. But it would need to be a real ranked queue (unlike RoR). Perhaps more civs from "Chronicles" from the Antiquity could be added later on?

I wonder if the incendiary ships are weaker because monoremes are weaker of if they have more bonus damage

The trading sounds extremely similar to AoE1 pre-DE(?). I quite liked it in the original game.

It's a shame that regular civs can't make shipyards. Wait, wouldn't the Romans of AOE2 be an ancient civ?
