Thought I was gonna talk about the apology? Well sorry, I'm covering something much darker. This week, I subjected myself to the torture of watching the entire first season of Colleen Ballinger's Netflix show, and it was incredibly frightening.

actually based on a young fan of hers who actually had the illness, and Colleen thought that the girl was exaggerating her condition
to get closer to Colleen.

The repeated sexualization of miranda feels.... like a joke about how little disabled girls get taken advantage of. Or not feels like— it is. Thats the joke of the whole show, making fun of disabled people. Miranda has to be a pervy creep, but also completely unaware and being taken advantage of. She could be portrayed as a horrible person if she wasn't also portrayed as too stupid to realize this isnt normal.

As someone who was homeschooled, I can confirm we do weird shit a lot. 99% of us don't groom children though, I think that's a Colleen thing.

I took an English class based off of pop culture, and we literally watched Haters Back Off as an example of failed comedy to do analysis on why that could be.

Remember guys, Dark Crystal Age of Resistance was cancelled after 1 season, but Colleen's "Haters Back Off" got 2 seasons. There is no justice in the world.

Regarding the mom having fibromyalgia, colleen created this character to literally mock a fan of hers who suffers from it. Imagine being a die hard fan of someone only to discover that they've been mocking you this whole time about your illness and gender identity.

Colleen isn't slick. I tried watching the show when I was little, and I instantly felt so uncomfortable with the cinnamon bun scene. I was a CHILD and I knew that it had to be an innuendo. She thinks the jokes will go over the kid's heads, but they're so blatant.

As someone with fibromyalgia I'm getting tired of seeing shows and movies portray it as a disease people only "pretend" to have. My pain is real and I'm not pretending to have a chronic illness, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who feels this way. I hope representation of disabilities gets better in the near future, because this was truly garbage 🙏
