Based on the character created by Colleen Ballinger, Haters Back Off delves into the oddball family life of Miranda Sings. The series stars Colleen Ballinger as Miranda Sings, Steve Little (Eastbound & Down) as Miranda's overly confident and utterly misguided Uncle Jim, Angela Kinsey (The Office) as Miranda's mom, Bethany, and Erik Stocklin, as Miranda's neighbor and best friend, Patrick.

This show is surprisingly good. It's weird, a little childish at some points, but there's something about it that sets it apart from other shows we have around nowadays. It's Rachel Berry going Napoleon Dynamite and I ended up loving it.

I had heard about her before, but I got to know Miranda Sings from it and then started to watch her youtube videos. It gave me a broader perspective and I think they did a great job humanizing the caricature that we see on YouTube throughout the episodes, in a way you start to understand and feel for her and her journey seeking fame and she starts to feel alive, not just a parody. The supporting cast is pretty good, Angela Kinsey is simply amazing as the mother and I particularly love the Emily character that keeps the show grounded when it's starting to feel like it's too much and going too far, beyond being there to show how a normal person would be in this kind of environment with a "different" family. Her emotional scenes with Miranda are great too. Patrick and the uncle annoy me a bit but I'd expect a future season to have more of her "baes" in it, so I think it'll get better, in regards to male characters. Owen is fun.
