It's clearly because so many osu! players are just heavily invested in digital art, but then surprise themselves by accidentally becoming tablet players

I felt like you tried your hardest not to offend anyone, and ended up saying nothing interesting or noteworthy the whole video.

To the new players who get mouse drift it's simply an issue of your lack of skill 9/10 times don't splash out on a tablet when at the end of the day you still won't hit those circles and you'll probably quit before you truly reap the rewards, play at least for a year imo before buying a tablet.

Thank you willy, not many people cover this topic. Straight to the point, interesting, and gives some history behind the use of tablets.

I never understood the complaints about mouse drift. For me, mouse drift was simply a signal that a map was out of my skill range. Once I got more comfortable around that skill range, it basically disappeared. Mouse drift was very apparent on maps that were way out of my league so this signal was very helpful in seeing what I could aim comfortably or not.

I later switched to tablet because my hand would cramp so badly using mouse, it hurt. Another reason why I stuck with tablet is because my movement felt more fluid as if I was drawing which felt more natural. Keep in mind tho, I tried switching to tablet 3 times. 2 of them resulting in failed attempts that made me just stick with mouse cause it felt better. But now I'm a tablet main.

Switching to tablet brought numerous problems for me tho. Such as constant loss of grip and pressing on the pen too hard with my thumb that made it to numb often. The grip is the most inconvenient especially when your fingers just choose a day to be sweaty.

I guess for most players the inconvenience of mouse drift supercedes the inconvenience of pen grip.

As for me, tablet included a more natural movement that I liked. However I could never escape the chains of mouse because I do drag on tablet. I need friction and I can never understand how some tablet players hover lol

interesting thing to note is that the 10-15% of the top 100 being mouse players statistic hasn't really changed for as long as i've been around

There might be a way to kill mouse drift with the proper hardware.

There is what is called kalman filters in the field of control systems theory, where you can use 2 or more sensors and blend them together to get optimal sensor readings.

One very common use of this coupling system is to blend the data of a very reliable and quick sensor that has drift with the data of a very slow and noisy one that does not drift to get a better sensor reading.

Might be worth looking into!

Personally mouse drift didn’t seem to affect me too much while using the Razer Viper Mini, but I hated the cord and a good wireless mouse is more expensive than a good tablet so I just went with a tablet.

I think as you get better at osu! On mouse it becomes really easy to doubt whether or not you should switch, chances are that after a slight learning curve you'll be as good If not better, but it's also sad considering the hours of commitment and dedication you put into overcoming your input device

I see a lot of people complaining about mouse drift but when you get to certain point of skill it doesnt affect you

I was really hoping you were just going to say "mouse drift" at the start of the video and then the rest is just 4 minutes of black screen

just got back to playing osu again after 2 years. i played with the mouse for about 2 weeks, i can aim fine with it and able to get high acc on short 6* maps. but i changed to tablet again because i cant really get comfortable with the mouse grip, which make me hard to play longer 6* maps that have no break at all..

switched back to tablet and it only took me 2-3 days to adjust and find a comfortable pen grip.. also because i saw someone listed cth 480 for $30 and i immediately bought the tablet lol

Thank you so much for explaining the Ouendan and Elite Beat Agents games.

I first played those games and then found out about osu in 2010. I remember being a little kid and my family wasn't about to buy me a tablet just so I could tap circles, so I had no choice but to start off with mouse. I couldn't aim for shit, and I eventually forgot about the game completely.

Eventually in my teenage years I decided to try osu again and I played with mouse for a while. Years before that, my mom got a Wacom tablet for her birthday that she never used, so when I started playing osu more often, I asked her if I could use it and she just gave it to me.

I tried to use it to play osu only to realize that I aimed just as bad as I did with mouse. The only reason why I didn't switch back was because I wanted the Ouendan/EBA feel.

That's why I still get confused when I see current new players wanting a tablet immediately despite not knowing about the existence of the mentioned DS games that osu is based off of.

if it wasnt for my tablet wearing out in 2 weeks every time i change my surface area i would probably still be using it

One thing that I've always thought is that since your average tablet pen is lighter than your average mouse, it's a lot easier to move around quickly and precisely. Back when I played mouse, I could never get over 300RPM on spinners, but now that I play tablet, less than 300 is slow to me.
