At an old job, I had an opportunity to price a computer for running some new software. I had difficulty explaining to them that the minimum RAM required for a program did NOT mean that was the maximum RAM the computer needed to have installed. These were the same people that would get minimum requirement builds and then try to run 10 times as much as it was spec’d for.

This will help with the 1000+ chickens I have crammed into a 5x5 coop.

You should also add the argument "-Xms(RAM)" and make it the same size as the max RAM.
Java will periodically dump things from RAM to reduce its usage but this memory dumping actually causes stutters. If the max and min RAM are the same size there won't be massive cleanups of RAM that cause freezes. Aaaand always use optifine ofc

Why isn’t this common knowledge? Wow thank you so much, I love your videos man

You're awesome! I never knew this and now I can allocate 4gb instead of 2 and my game runs much better. Thank you so much definitely liked and subbed

Wish I knew this when I still used the default launcher

This helps out so much, this whole time I thought it was my computer that was making the game so jumpy…

Excellent video. It's a pain that they hide something important this away like that. The game runs so much more smoothly with more allocated RAM. Subscribed.

Again, literally perfectly timed vids my playthough lmao, I started going after ways to boost my perfomance after I found some really great shaders(COMPLEMENTARY SHADERS BY EMINGTR I HIGHLY RECOMMEND) that maybe dont tank my fps but more fps would be nice.
Thank you for these videos, so far every single one has been a great help for me!

Wow, thank you for this helpful tip!! My game runs a LOT smoother now, especially now that it has several mode. Thank you Eyecraftmc 👍

Thank you. I have 64GB of RAM in my gaming PC, there is no reason minecraft needs to only use 2

Arbitrarily increasing your Ram allocation to a minimum of 6gb and a recommended of 8gb is not a good thing. The amount of RAM a person’s computer is a critical piece of information to reference before making suggestions like this. Most prebuilt systems and laptops come with 8gb. If you try to allocate 8gb to minecraft, it will take it and your system will run like crap because there isn’t any memory left for the OS… always leave at least 2gb of RAM for your computer!

This is super useful thank you hopefully my next stream is more smooth now!

Allocating more ram to mc won't do the trick - you need to allocate the amount it requires - no more no less, otherwise your game either will run out of memory, or will force garbage collection call to execute when nearly all your memory is filled with garbage, which will do a massive lag periodically, which will be far from smooth, since frame times will be awful - better to have stable 30 fps with no variation in frame times rather than 240 jumping back and forth frame-time-wise, in this case 30 would seem much more smooth and appealing, and most importantly comfortable to play - the fact it works on your machine only says - you got lucky, thus the quote - "I would recommend setting it to 6G" is the worst advice you could give, given the fact, you didn't even mentioned garbage collection, and yes 2G is more than enough for vanilla minecraft to play not only stable but smooth as butter, if you have okay cpu, you don't crank up resolution, nor render distance too high and if you spend some time optimising garbage collection for your use case. P.S. + give your system some space as well dont give all 8 Gigs of yours only to minecraft - thats a bad idea..

It actually works. My fps increased from 70 to 100. Although it's worth notice, that this can impact your shaders performance

pretty sure everyone already knows about changing the RAM amount and it does help a little bit but unless minecraft java gets rewritten to use multi-threading it will never be performant. There are videos now of people using 3090s or 4090s and 13900Ks with the shader mods to uplift the graphics and what you notice is their GPU utilization is really low with the cards barely raising temps at all because every rendered frame is waiting around for a single core from the CPU to do its processing for that frame. There's no real money to be made in mojang/microsoft and in fact it would be very costly so it'll just never happen which is why minecraft java will always be trash to play even as computers get better and better
