No idea how I found this. Easily becoming one of my favorite channels. Great work.

I am really interested how sudoku are made, with difficulty level in mind. It seems that for the really elegant puzzles the author has a very clear idea what steps the solver has to take. Will there ever be a video about that?

I really love these videos! I love hearing the thought process of people who are better than me at these sorts of puzzles, it really helps me learn how to think about them better.

489 = 20, and 368 = 17 at 16:58, the middles are made distinct by checking the two possible cases, and which case is correct can also be determined. 179 = 18, so the 14 box has to be a 1 and the rest fall in line.

15:45 Tough one to spot, but if you try 7 rather than 5, the only way to make the remaining 8 is 2 and 6, giving you a 267 going down that leaves the sixth row box empty. Therefore, it must be a 5.

This is the first puzzle I've done before watching the video due to how unique they are. I had to have a spreadsheet open with all possible combinations for getting the outside totals and work through them all. Not quite developed the same intuition for these as typical sudoku

tried it myself, before watching the video... I've never done this kind of sudoku before, so this took me almost 90 minutes, but I solved it

Give the state of the puzzle at 14:51, the sum of the columns in each box equal (15 14 16), (14 15 16), and (16 15 14) respectively. Because of the limited set of possible combinations, I would conjecture that this should require each respective column of 14, 15, and 16 to have a similar combination of numbers. Ergo, you only need to find the union of the existing possible combinations.

The 15-column of the top-middle box have the possible combinations of (258 276 456) and the 15-column of the center box has the possible combinations of (186 357 456 492). The union of the two is (4 5 6). Assuming my conjecture is true, that would mean the 15-column of the bottom-middle box should also be a combination of (4 5 6). The only possible combination given what is shown would mean the column is equal to (5 4 6).

A similar approach should work for the other columns. I'm curious if this would hold true as a solution path for other Frame Sudoku puzzles with similar initial conditions.

11:15 It might be helpful to look at that as odds and evens. {7, 9} is always odd, {4, 6} is always even, so to get 21 you need another even number, so 5 is out.

Could you take any finished sudoku and make it a framed sudoku? Just wondering if it would be logical to finish and only one solution

Where can I find these types of puzzles? When I search variants, I don't find these.

13:53 He goes through an elimination process where the 2nd option he misses the 1 in the bottom left square isn't possible due to 1 in the top left.

Hey,
I really love these types of variation sudokus. Do you have any great suggestions where to find more of those / are there any sudoku books in regards of those (the ones which can be solved) / do you know any apps which do variant sudokus.
