A lot of good skate shoes cost more than the deck itself. I’d say sacrificing the deck is probably more beneficial cause you can get a good deck for like 40-50 bucks and some nice skate shoes are upward of 70-100 bucks. I guess it depends on what you value more?

I like to combine the two. But instead of letting my tail touch, I touch the ground with the tip of my toes

Usually as a skater myself I won't use my shoes or the board, as long as I'm careful
(Even at fast speeds)
I'll step off my board and shift my front foot back just a little bit to stop it when I step off

I get razor tail just by sliding my tail to the edge of the coping. It doesn't always be from tricks or stopping
