Guard Chambers Bullet Tomb of the Unknown

We visited Arlington Cemetery with our family on July 4th 2017. Our last stop of the day was the Tomb of the Unknown solider for the changing of the guard. As the guards were preparing for the guard change two unidentified people came up the back steps that are chained off and were literally feet from the tomb. I know that they are on high alert especially on days like the 4th because of the world terrorist threats etc. When he saw the people and perceived them as a possible threat the guard immediately went into action. At one point in the video he even chambers a bullet. (Edit) he appears to chamber a bullet however the weapon is not loaded

The guards exist not to instill respect for the tomb of the unknown soldier. But to enforce it. I would not recommend testing them

I’m 3 states away, and I’m currently looking for some chains and rails to get behind...

Loaded or not.... That bayonet will still work 100% of the time.

This isn’t some random guard assignment. It’s an honor to be the guard. You have to earn it, and the oath they take when selected is for life. The ritual. The sacrifice. The details. These guys have all of my respect.

I’ve spoken to a sentinel before and he said “we love yelling at people” 🤣

We live in a society where adults have to be yelled at in public.

Imagine being the first person to get shot by a U.S. soldier using an M1 Garand in the last 50-60 or so years. #OldSchool

Their title is Sentinel, and they are there for only one thing - to guard the Tombs. Much respect to these awesome soldiers.

The rabbit thought he was talking to him. Poor little guy starting looking for the steps immediately.

As I once heard from another YT commenter:

“English may be the most commonly spoken tongue, but the language of *chk chk* is universally understood”

Some tourists are so annoying. I was at the White House and this small group kept crossing over the chain in front of the fence to get a photo. Like getting 3 feet closer makes a difference. A Secret Service Agent kept telling them to get away from the fence and they ignored him. Later, I was at The Tomb of the Unknown and a group was talking loud and laughing. The guard did a facing movement and yelled something to the affect this is a sacred place and to show some respect.

Even the little rabbit at 0.47 is looking for a rail to get behind.

My grandpa would tell a story of one time this hippie (In the 60s) tried to throw paint on it... needless to say he was unsuccessful and got his jaw broken with the butt of a rifle
