I was doing a problem where you had to consider potential energy increase or decrease as the block moved up or down the slope. That gave me more insight into why gravity is just just a component force in the problem.

This is a good video. One error: 'Mass of the block is 15N' is not correct. It should be 'Mass of the block is 15 kg' or 'weight of the block is 15N' :)

I fixed that type-o with an annotation. It should read the "Weight of block is 15N".

Mass is kilograms.   Force is Newtons as in WEIGHT (N)
W = mg

The answer is 7.5N, those who are getting 73.5N are mistakenly taking an already converted value for weight and multiplying it again by g, seeing it is in newtons (N) should be a giveaway that you are already looking at mg (mass*gravity) and not just mass (m).

What is the answer? Assuming the mass is 1.531Kg, is Ff 7.5N?

I was taught to use the reference in the same direction as the Normal force. I have seen this everywhere in books and internet. You struggled because they did not teach you the way everybody else teaches inclined plane problems.
