In this video we take an in-depth look at how to setup your GoPro Hero 10 for the best quality videos. Yes, this is a long video, but that is because the quality you can get out of your GoPro is directly tied to how well you understand and apply the varies GoPro settings!

We will cover every video setting the GoPro has to offer as well as when each setting is applicable in different shooting situations.

We start off with general preferences, move into the details of frame rates, resolutions, and bitrates, and finish with the best ProTune settings to adjust in different situations.

Overall, the biggest thing you can do for your video quality out of the GoPro is to ensure you are using the correct Frame Rate and Resolution. The GoPro Hero 10 is capable of shooting 5.3K video at 60 frames per second. For non-action footage, this can be a great way to give yourself a little real-estate to punch-in or crop in post assuming you are planning on exporting a 4K (or smaller) file.

The problem with 5.3K is that it can only shoot up to 60fps which is just too slow to capture some very fast action footage. Instead, consider using 4K 120fps or 2.7K 249fps depending on how much slow motion you plan on doing!

Quick revision. The GoPro sensor is actually natively a 4:3 aspect ratio so setting the camera to 16:9 is actually cropping the top/bottom of the video vs. the other way around like I said in the video. If you want as much FOV as possible, set the camera to 4:3 and crop to 16:9 in post-production. That will give you the most control over your footage!
