GoPro Hero 10 Black The ONLY Settings That Make Sense!!
GoPro Hero 10 Black Best Settings For Easy Editing!!

#gopro #goproHero10Black #BestGoProSettings

In this video I explore
the GoPro Hero 10 Black. I was hesitant to buy this camera in particular because I wasn't quite sure if I actually needed it. I did do a bunch of research and DID like the footage I've seen others get so I knew that the camera was 'good enough' for my needs. But, I still owned a 'vintage' Sony Action Cam that, although was only 1080p, worked and looked pretty decent.

When I finally made the decision to purchase the GoPro I couldn't wait to begin testing it out. After opening the box, the first thing I did was change a few settings. Unfortunately it was for the worse. My goal was to use this camera at 4k since my Sony A7SIII is a 4k camera. Just seemed to make sense. So, I started with 4k. Then, I decided to change the sharpness setting from medium to low. And, that was my first mistake. While I'm sure using low sharpening out of camera and then re-sharpening to taste in post is a best practice, that just simply wasn't my goal. My goal is to have the very best settings out of camera and have minimal post processing, if any at all. That might sound like a tall order but that's the way I've been doing things with my Sony cameras for 10 years and I've been happy with the results.

This video shows the preliminary results of my findings after testing this camera. I basically came up with a few settings that I like and although I might have to do a bit of grading here and there. I think these settings give the best results out of camera with the most latitude to edit if needed. Enjoy!

The Hero 9 was my first GoPro and I also subsequently bought a Hero 10. I am a transit and transportation enthusiast, so I often do videos of moving vehicles. That said, I usually have one or another tweak of settings, depending on whether I am capturing a transit train in a subway tunnel or a city bus on a brightly lit street. The key here is to experiment with settings until you achieve the desired result. Very informative video.

I'm the same mate. I don't want to do any colour grading or sharpness tweaks. Medium sharpness and natural colour looks good to me.

You are spot on about the sharpness setting. Almost everyone says to keep it set to Low but that's clearly fuzzy. No one mentions that! They say, you can sharpen it back in Post but Medium is great and not overly done. I shoot sometimes in flat/log and color grade/balance in post but not adding sharpness too. I like WIDE because linear has more of a stretchy look than wide on the sides. Plus, with wide you could crop in if needed. -.5EV works for me....GoPro changed the firmware to help the white blowouts also. I also own that Sony Action Cam (X3000? I also own the Sony AS-100? earlier model). I think Sony still looks good and the audio is better than the GoPro's slightly. I would use the GoPro mainly because of the superior stability (and 5K). But I do use the Sony for a second camera. I also own a GoPro Max 360 camera. In post production with MAX your output is really 1080p and you can't push in too much but the 360 view choice is unbeatable. I switched to GoPro from the Sony Action Cams when GoPro mastered stabilization over Sony with the HERO 7. Before that, Sony was best with stabilization. I'm very happy with the Hero 10 even though it has some funky glitches with the screen touches and hangs sometimes but these happen not very often anymore. One more thing....about the bit rate. I understand you want to keep it to high but can you really tell the difference? One of YouTube's videos said they can't see a difference. I think it would show up with pixilation. I'm going to test that in a day or so. I will zoom in 800% or abouts on both the high bit rate sample vs lower bit rate sample. It makes perfect sense to keep the high bit rate but I like to see how much degradation there is in using the lower bit rate. I use 256G cards so space is not an issue. Just curious.

The Sony looks good as well! I just pulled mine out and I took a walk in the park and it amazed me just how good it was. However, I have a GoPro set to Medium sharpness and Natural and I love it! BOOM!!

I have watched the other 3 videos of the HERO 10 settings comparison in your channel. This is best and the most honest & professional review for the GoPro Hero 10 in youtube. Nobody is really talking about; are the white too white, are the dark too dark, are the green still look natural like nature, what is the neutrality of the video footage without post production. There are just too many bad examples out there that don't make sense. I have learned a lot from the videos. Thank you very much for this entire experiment.

I have issue with my new GoPro 10 . My previous cam was GoPro session 5 and i had Samsung Evo 256sd card . The problem with new gopro 10 is that when I connect cam to PC gopro quick app he don't see any media on that sd card and shows 0 and doesn't want to download my files to GoPro quick app because he thinks its empty. I never had this issue with same sd card in my session 5 cam. So now in order to transfer files from sd card to pc I have to use usb sd card reader which is annoying. Do you know what might be the issue here and why GoPro quick doesn't recognize this sd card in GoPro 10? I checked 2 sd cars Samsung Evo 256gb and scan disc 32gb they both work fine on my gopro session 5 and gopro quick app see them without any issue but on gopro 10 no.

The flat preset permanently loses detail on surfaces with low contrast (for example, the face). Therefore, it is better to shoot in a natural preset with low sharpness if there is post-processing. Medium sharpness also gives a good result if there is no post-processing.

I have had the osmo action 1 for about 12 months now. I am looking at as much as i can on the hero 10 black, just in case. From what i watch on YT the hero is much more stable. Watching as much as I can before deciding to make the switch.

I am a DJI Osmo Action "fanboy", but I bought Gopro 8 last summer (my first gopro ever) and sold it not long after and bought another OA.
But This winter I actually bought Gopro 10 and I love it enough. And like you recommended in another video, Flat colors is the way to go, it do look great.
5, 3 K is not sharp at all, so I stick to 4K.
A really downside with Hero 10 is how bad it is in low light. My Osmo Action do really good. But when I need the best low light performance, I use my lovely Nikon D7500.

Great video! You seem very knowledgeable about GoPros. I have a question for you. Recently, when I import my videos to my computer, about half the videos say gopro “video clip is not compatible with QuickTime Player”. Do you happen to know how to open these videos? Thank you 👍

I'm in the same boat. Just got the hero 10 black, also my very first GoPro. Going on a trip very soon and overwhelmed with what settings to use. I think I might just stick with the out of the box 'standard' setting for now. Might change the bitrate to high though. Not sure
