Why is food delivery so expensive now ?

Food delivery wasn’t always this expensive—but companies like DoorDash and Uber Eats changed the game.

At first, they made ordering affordable and helped restaurants thrive. But once we got hooked, they cranked up the fees. Now, customers pay way more, restaurants get squeezed, and the only real winners are the delivery giants.

I have never personally used a food delivery service. I’ve only been involved in 2 group orders. You are not trapped lol.

About three hours ago, i ordered a 12 pack of my favorite frosty beverage on doordash. Cost of the item was 12.99. By the end of my purchase, my cost was about 25.00, including a 3.50 tip. The fact that these companies can over DOUBLE the cost of an order (yes i get the tip is optional) is ABSURD.

Everyone will pay for convenience nowadays. For someone who doesn't have a car, or if its like 3 AM and you feel hungry, it make sense. But the fact that i ordered a single doughnut for $2 and at checkout, even with uber one, it sky rockted to $7, says otherwise. That's not accounting for the tips, and fhe drivers don't even get paid that much either.

You are def not forced to use the apps. I stopped using them. Leave your home and go get groceries or go to the restaurants like you did before Uber Eats and Door Dash.

Typical business practice:

Step 1: make a quality product/service for a decent price.

Step 2: because of step 1 it gets pretty popular.

Step 3: once people got used to it start charging more and cutting corners.

Step 4: because people got too used to it, most of them will just keep using it while complaining they're paying more for worse than before.

They also have to pay for all of the fraud, refund fraud, litterly people stealing food, saying it wasn't delivered when it was, not delivering it when you said you did, ect

No one is "forced" to pay for those fees. You pay them if you want to. It's the market.

I never use any food delivery apps. Not even pizza delivery. I can be at any place I want food from and back home before they can get to me lol

I don’t get how people are trapped on these apps. I used to DoorDash to my place a bunch and parents just taught me, drive down the street litterally 3 mins, get whatever my heart desires and drive back.

Haven't used a delivery app in a few years. A lot cheaper to go pick it up yourself!

The main reason is these delivery companies lost money when starting up by offering lower fees to make it more appealing to customers and restaurants restaurants. But now they increased the fees to make profit to keep their investors happy.

Stop delivery apps from robbing restaurants and customers.

And that's the reason everything is so expensive. Cause people aren't buying but renting services. People don't open a kitchen but but an app. Subscription is the word you're looking for. They are scams

The apps just take advantage of people's lack of time, laziness, or physical inability to go out to get their food, and thus are able to squeeze as much as possible, not to mention that this makes it even harder for small businesses to thrive, as their systems benifit big businesses who can foot the premium without worrying, these are probably too high for small businesses to get on the app and thus loose customers because of it, all of this in a time where its already incredibly hard for small businesses to survive, remember: skip the McDonalds and go to a visit to that cute diner close by!(or thats how I am interpreting it)
