Wow! This is the best lesson i have learnt today. I actually had no ideal it is possible to have the bike move on its own rev without adding power to it

How I learned to think of it (as a beginner myself) was to think of it almost like game controls.
The clutch lever is the left stick: The further forward it goes, the more your character (the bike) wants to move, and the further back it is, the less so down to zero.
The throttle is like a sprint control: The more you engage it, the more motivation your character has. (But it's analogue.)

As for stalling, I learned the science behind it, being that the clutch decides how much energy goes to the drive mechanism vs how much the crankshaft holds onto so it can keep rotating. Assuming the bike is in-gear, if you let the clutch all the way out too quickly, then it will need to spin the drive mechanism fast enough that the cylinder(s) can complete another full cycle up to the point of the next combustion in order to keep going. This means either there isn't enough throttle (energy) to do that, meaning the crankshaft loses all it's energy before it can complete 4 full strokes of the cylinder(s), or there is enough throttle, and it leaps forward so fast that you won't go with it and it will attempt a backflip as the rear wheel attempts to overtake the rest of the bike.
If you brake with the clutch out and gears engaged, the brake literally stops the system including the crankshaft turning over, so no more combustions can take place, stopping the chain reaction.

So, add enough energy that the engine can move the bike easily as fast as it likes, then let it do so gradually so both the bike and you remain stable as you accelerate.

I watched this BEFORE my basic course and it didnt hit me like a ton of bricks until AFTER I completed the course and rewatched your video. I can definitely recognize the mistakes I made now that wasn't addressed during my class. Thank you SO MUCH for your videos!!!

This is so helpful. Most videos are like “here’s how to shift…yada yada yada…and that’s how you’re in sixth gear. Thanks for watching.”

Had a taster with my son. He taught us to never let the clutch out for learning. My son had balance issues. Cancelled CBT for now. I did struggle a bit with clutch. The Honda's i think have been abused and clutch needs adjusting as the biting point was quite far. The accelerator was wild it would flutter. This is absolutely amazing advice. Love your other vids. Just found this today.

Just got home from doing a 1 hour session before doing my cbt on Friday. Never been on a motor bike so I'm completely green on this. Started me off on a push and go automatic which was fine but then went over to a manual and I really struggled with it. Could not get the concept of of applying throttle and finding the bite like he was showing me while maintaining the revs. Came home a little disheartened and looked around on you tube and found this. The way you just showed me just makes sense! Thankyou very much. Fingers now crossed for Frinday.

from the 20 plus videos i watched, no one has explained it as easy as you did. i actually didn't know that it was possible to even let go of the clutch with 0 throttle involved. thank you for this video king!

Wow this is something new to me. I was taught to t release clutch and give gas . Neve3r thought releasing clutch with no gas will make bike move. Going to try to change my way of starting off the bike. Always was afraid when in first gear releasing clutch than giving gas bike would stall or take off too quickly. Bike stalls after moving jerks and I loose balance. Still riding started at 45 years now 77 years old.

I had my first day of my msf course and have little to no experience with riding by myself. I struggled with the clutch and throttle today. Found this video so helpful I am going to use this to help me tomorrow thank you!!

This is miles helpful, I was taught none of this on my CBT, nearly crashed the bloody thing into the wall on my first ever go! 😂 I think this would have been alot easier

Great tuition! I have just bought an AJS Cadwell 125. Got my CBT back in October 2022....did nothing for a year. Now that I have the bike, I have to learn all over again! You are of immense value to me at this stage. I will be 69 before the year is out, so I am no spring chicken. My kids think I am mad!

If you have lower cc bikes then you have to do a slow clutch release and need to give little throttle rise..for 1st gear

Great video, 2023 Kawa KLR 650 owner here, the clutch was difficult to learn, I haven’t stalled the bike in the past 3 rides. Thank you for posting.

Last time I drove a manual car was during my course just over 20 years ago. I just got into bikes now and back to using manual transmission. I did not know you can fully let off the clutch in first gear without any gas! Need to test this out when I get my bike in a couple days.
