Sentinel killed the primes so that he wouldn't have to serve under them, which is pretty much what D-16 ends up doing to him. While Sentinel did it for personal glory, D-16 felt it was justified and wanted to reform the system by extreme methods so that they wouldn't be second-class citizens. Nevertheless, there's a cycle of violence that Orion tried to stop his friend from perpetuating, and he failed, leading to Megatron becoming a potentially worse (albeit more understandable) monster.

Sentinel's crimes:
-Secretly betraying all 13 Primes for all the powers of Cybertron.
-Working with the Quintessons behind the scene.
-Eliminating all 12 Primes, and severely injuring Alpha Trion
-Tries to steal the Matrix of Leadership before it vanished, which later caused the energon in the planet to slowly disappear.
-Taking Megatronus Prime's cog for himself right after he divorced Meg's head from the body.
-Pretends to be a sole survivor of Quintesson attack and used "Prime" as a title, thus making him a false prime.
-Ripping out the t-cog from an entire generation of cybertronians, making them unable to transform.
-Forcing those cogless bots to mine energons so he could live like a king.
-Using said energon so he could give it to the Quintessons, though it's unclear why these space bugs wants energon in the first place.
-Purposely left before letting Darkwing takes Orion Pax and D-16 to drop them to the lowest floor of Cybertron, which ironically led to Sentinel's downfall.
-Making up rumors to other miners that Orion and D-16 were merked in the Iacon 5000 race, despite both of them clearly still being alive.
-Kidnapping B-127, D-16 and most of the high guard members.
-Merking off Alpha Trion because he was tired of speeches.
-Falsely accusing D-16 of betraying everyone around him.
-Denied what D-16 said about him and said that the truth is what he makes.
-Indirectly causing the Cybertronian civil war by "creating" Optimus Prime and Megatron.
