The best way I coped with this symptom when I was on meds was going for a walk or run at the time when they were wearing off. Any form of movement helps move that energy out and not lash out at others.

That happened to me too with all the regular ADHD meds. I started taking Vyvanse instead and it was great, but after a few years, I began to have excessive depression, so I had to stop ADHD meds all together. 😢

Hi Ella, have you discussed this with your psychiatrist or health care specialist that helps you with your medication? For some people, taking the second dose early can help them avoid their rebound. For example if you know, like you do, that your rebound happens at 3pm, try taking your second dose (often a smaller one than the first to avoid sleep issues later at night) at around 2.30pm (assuming your meds take about 30 mins to kick in. Often you don't even have to be super precise with that or can play with taking them 10 to 15mins earlier or slightly later. This should help avoid the rebound. Do please check all of this information with your medical professional before attempting this! I myself am NOT a medical professional. Hope it helps. Thanka for sharing your journey!

as a kid I would have this happen due to not eating! the meds messed with my appetite and I couldn’t eat because I wouldnt feel hungry and I would eventually become a hangry rage. I dont take ADHD meds for this exact reason

You really have great comment sections. These people have written the most amazing responses. The anger is intense, I remember.

My doctor just had me take two half doses and take one at 9 am and one at 12 pm. It didn’t keep me up at night, but I always had enough in my system to not give me irritability.

The pharmacist told me, this can be an issue if you don't eat (the meds can make you not want to eat) and at 3pm your body is actually hungry but you aren't registering the hunger.

Back when I was taking ADHD meds I sometimes would crash at a certain time of day. I learned to eat a lot of snacks and do something that increases blood flow like exercise or taking a shower at the time I knew I was gonna crash.

I really appreciate you sharing this. My husband has ADHD and has been having these horrible rages everyday, right around the same timeframe you mentioned. He was feeling really guilty about it, but now we know what might be causing the rage and can figure out ways to combat it. Thank you!!

I just made a note to discuss with my psychiatrist a very similar issue - except my rebound is utter exhaustion. 2pm on the dot, every day.

My rage sets in at 3pm too! It made afternoon work hours nearly unbearable. I deal with stim rage, and rage issues in general but they are worse around those times. I take abilify prn for that and other issues now and it has helped. I've found taking ADHD meds cyclically with my cycle helps me. I think PMDD is so common in this community, and I've been able to function ok without meds during the first half of my cycle, but I feel like I need something during my luteal phase.

thanks for sharing your story online I was told Its not always good to share but cuz mine involves my ex who abused me because using my overprescribed adhd ptsd antidepressant meds and pain meds drug induced psychosis and then harsh withdrawals whole having cannabis induced psychosis that led to worse ER visit of my life but even after living with for 9months after ER weed trip but couldn't tolerate and participate in abuses that of course made it blame on me but thank God for FACTS of receipts on records showing reality of real life which makes me feel we all need surveillance to really see facts of things and for accountability of those who manipulate twist around to make those they oppressed as if there crazy but that's another messed up thing how consistent gaslighting does harm the mind there's evidences of that but to have psychiatric abuse being overprescribed and sad how just on reg doses alone of adhd drugs causes psychosis just made mine worse so it's messed up to feel how wronged by so many and to be deemed as crazy after all horrible experiences of just wanting to make a good life but end up being screwed over by those we're suppose to trust the most smh... harsh reality and got to always use best discernment and investigations before fully trusting someone smh ..

It is definitely a journey. I take a low dose extended release + low dose immediate release in the morning and then another low dose of immediate release in the evening…this helps prevent major drop offs. Doctors think this is weird but it works best for me. I also notice the effect of meds varies depending on how much I slept, when I exercised, etc.. Exercising in the morning & moving throughout the day helps a lot. If I take meds and don’t exercise at all, I get jumpy and grouchy. My family has learned that i HAVE to go running or I will not be a very nice person. Wishing you luck with finding the best med (or no med) & dosage & routine!

Air hugs 🤗. You'll work it out I have faith in you.

AND you aren't the most emotionally disregulated person it just feels that way from the inside. Hang in there!! You're perfect just as you are even at 3.

I had this issue on methylphenidate, especially Ritalin short release, despite attempting multiple overlapping doses I'd get really irritable in the late afternoon. Ritalin LA was also not great. However, I've since switched to Concerta (also methylphenidate) which has a more sophisticated shaped release profile over the day and it's been so, so much better for me. I just have no issues coming off it. Idk if that's accessible to you, but could be worth trying if it is. Good luck in finding something which works for you!

I also have schizophrenia as well as being autistic. So I can not take stimulants. They are very bad
for me personally. I have had them and they cause full psychosis. It took months to get better. You certainly might need them. It's certainty a personal choice. Thank you for sharing. Stay strong.

I had to take my little one off of meds because of these symptoms. It was a nightmare and I just couldn’t imagine how he felt internally if the external symptoms were as bad as they were.

Thank you for this- I also think you always have very comfy looking pants. Would you over consider talking about where your favorites places to get sensory friendly clothes are

I have the same issue, Ella. And it gets worse with perimenopause. Vyvanse was better but instead of rage I broke down in tears daily. Ultimately, I decided it just wasn’t worth it and discontinued adhd meds. Yes, it’s harder but I feel much better.
