Could Centaurs be saddled up and raced like horses?

I think lore wise every centaur is meant to look different with different body parts, but because the developers do not want to create a new model, they just use the same one.

Probably the saddest creature, and the worst fate in the series. Death is an absolute mercy

Centaurs (especially in Fallout 3 and NV) are among the most terrifying and disgusting looking creatures in all of the Fallout series. The fact that it was once a human (and/or dog) makes it even more creepy.

The idea of centaurs being semi-sentient genuinely freaks me the fuck out. It soothes me to believe they’re just brain dead (though ineffective) killing machines

“Oh boy it sure is nice being a dog around the maraposa military base!”

I will never forget the first time I discovered centaurs. I was trying to sneak around the deathclaws at quarry junction and stumbled into the pit at black mountain. I was walking backwards so I could keep an eye out for deathclaws and walked right into one. Turned around to find one right in my face and it scared the living shit out of me.

These things are hands down the most disturbing part of the fallout series. The fact someone even thought these things up unsettles me.

Fun fact about the Spanish language: mariposa is Spanish for butterfly, and the mariposa military base was a place of metamorphosis

I remember seeing the centaurs near the crater next to Black Mountain (the one that has a couple of dead BoS paladins) who had names and thinking "Do they have names because they are pets or because they are humans mutated by the high radiation in this area?". The though of some poor wastelander transforming into a centaur while scavenging in a radioactive area is quite horrifying

I remember seeing a concept art illustration of a "Refined Centaur" by Adam Adamowicz. The Centaur wears a dinner jacket and shirt, and is holding a glass of champagne with its tongues.

I always loved killing Centaurs, it always made me feel like I was putting something out of its misery

Shame F4 scrapped their version. It was absolutely monstrous

I remember the first time I encountered one, a pity because I was just a kid about 12-13 years old. I was scared of ghouls and couldn't go into metro to travel to DC and advance in the storyline so I decided to go around DC ruins trying to find a path when I stumbled upon some kind of supermutant camp (those with twisted metal spikes, fires, gore bags...). Quickly entered VATS and upon inspecting the targets boom, a gross disgusting looking creature named Centaur. I was horrified and quickly paused the game, turned the pc screen and switched it off. Years passed since I had the guts to face them

Its always depressing to see the sad, scared expression on the F3/FNV centaurs. My immediate reaction is always disgust and intrigue and its immediately followed by this "Old Yeller" feeling that there is nothing I can do to help this person.

In the lore, each looks different because they were all made in different ways. Imagine if they made it so that every centaur has randomized body parts in game. They have 7-8 main spots for a limb/head. That simplifies this a lot. Just randomize what limbs go where and add a few different heads. Suddenly a centaur could look like anything, including a 7 dog-headed 1 armed abomination. I am sure this would be glitchy as hell because it is Bethesda, but it is already supposed to look janky and unnatural, so that fits. The evolved version could just have more crazy limbs, like deathclaw arms and scorpion tails. Hell, these things are relatively close to the master's appearance, and he could absorb other creatures into himself, so can they? Could you find one that literally just rips the arms off other creatures to upgrade itself?

It's also implied every centaur looks crazy different based on what was used to make them, that being said huge swing and a miss to not name them chimeras; but I suppose a human "horse" hybrid seemed more apt to them.

I remember when I first saw a centaur in FNV I actually yelled "what the fuck" out of shock. Afterwards I learnt about their lore and felt more pity than terror towards them. A sad, yet fascinating and scary creature of the wasteland indeed.

Imagine if fallout 4 had centaurs? The feral ghouls and deathclaws were pretty scary with their new models

YESSSS!!! When I found out you were doing a series on lore behind the creatures of the wasteland. I was so excited for centaur, I think they are one of my favorite beings from fallout.
