One game gives me the time to reflect my actions and why I did what I did. The other gives me vietnam flashbacks. Idk which is better.

the Teleporting thing in NV was because apparently, Boone would waltz into Legion Teritory when Pathing back to Novac and literally kill them all, One Man Army style.

I remember when I was playing fallout 4, I dismissed paladin danse so I could do something on my own, and when I came back for him at the airport, I heard his voice but I couldn’t find him, I then realized not only was he in an area I wasn’t allowed to reach yet,

He was in the goddamn walls.

If I remember correctly the teleport feature was to prevent your companions from dying in hardcore mode when dimissed

When you take Boone to the presidential suite and he picks up a pool cue to help fight Benny's goons. Good on ya Booney.

When I dismissed Boone he shot through me and killed a Legion soldier ages away as he disappeared to show me what a mistake I made.

I'd like to think Boone teleporting away is what it looks like when the player fast travels

Didn't they do teleporting in FNV because Boone would path his way through Legion areas and solo them? Rather in character of him

There are no companions in New Vegas. The courier developed multiple personality disorder after being shot in the head by Benny.

It always annoyed me how in Fallout 3, the game doesn't give you the option to not be a dick when you dismiss a companion.
It's always "Eh, piss off, I don't want you following me!"

At least in NV, it's just straightforward. You need to go it alone for a bit, and you'll be back later.

POV: you're a fiend hiding out in the north Vegas sewers and you hear "Big Iron" come on from somewhere out of sight.

me: "I've been inside your head before, I know how you think"
cassy: "there's just one problem"
me: "what's that cassy"
companion: **starts glitching through the walls**

My two greatest disappointments in NV were that a) dismissed companions hanging out in the penthouse together wouldn't interact, and b) I couldn't take my companions from the DLC back to the Mojave with me.

I just wanted all of my friends to be happy together 😢

Can confirm, fnv companions disappear like a fart in the wind

Always hated how it sounded like a break-up when you send them away

The one thing I hate bout NV companions is them waiting at the Lucky 38 whenever you go to the penthouse. I always forget to tell them to follow me and go like an hour with no companions

No joke, I once broke New Vegas so badly, vanilla on Xbox, that Boone would not leave me alone. And I mean even when dismissed, he followed me.

It didn’t bother me too much in the main game, but then I got to the dlcs. He followed me into the dlcs. Old world blues, lonesome road, dead money, all of them.

I never had to worry about the ghosts at all, except the frequent jump scare of their heads getting blown up. And I got someone to stack the gold onto and still kill and loot Elijah at the end Most loyal companion of all time, screw Fawkes.

The, "he's in the walls" is so perfect for a moment I had exploring the floral vault in FNV and I ~tcl cause I was lost and tried to find my way back to the beginning with no clip. Boone spazzed out due to trying to follow me thru walls and it just replaced the background map texture with his face. The whole grey out of bounds area was just a giant Boones face.
Edit: I did hate how f4 made you feel like a father going for the milk whenever you disbanded a follower.

To be fair, Fallout 4 companions also disappear if they go through a load area. If you dismiss them in the wasteland, they will path in the general direction of where you sent them, but the NPC pathfinding in 4 is so bad that they'll get stuck on anything larger than a can of Spam

You could have added "dismissing companions in Fallout 2" and made it the Futurama clip of Seymour waiting for Fry to come back (or the one from SpongeBob with Patrick when he says all he does when Spongebob is gone is wait for him to get back). Think that system works the same in Fallout 1, they just remain put where you tell them to until you get back. And given how fast travel and random encounters work, if you leave them in the random wasteland cells you stop at when roll a random encounter (such as raiders or pop culture references) you'll just lose them since you'll never find that cell ever again.

Been playing New Vegas again and anytime I feel like I'm breaking Cass's heart every time I dismiss her. Like I just want to switch out and help Boone with his trauma and guilt stuff, but can I tell her that? No, I have to crush her without explanation.
