Correction request: statue of liberty is in New York. It is in new jersey waters, but much of (but not all of) the island is a New York enclave.

🇨🇦🇨🇦As a Canadian I have never ever heard of Canada being mistaken as largest country in the world. I am used to people being surprised when they find out it’ second largest though.

Actually, Mandarin being the most commonly spoken language is only half-right, as that statistic only accounts for native speakers, and yes, it is the most common native language. However, English is the most common lingua franca, and is actually spoken by more people in total when you consider second (or third, etc.) languages, with Spanish still being the second most spoken regardless of which metric you use.

Some day I would like to learn Spain. I’ve heard it’s a useful language in Latin America and this country in Europe I just can’t remember the name of. Oh wait, I remember! It’s Spanish.

Fact 41: Bern is the capital city of Switzerland. This is not entirely true, because Switzerland does not have an official capital city. Bern does however function like a capital city would.

7:14 The capital of Switzerland is none, it's because Switzerland is so neutral that it doesn't want any part of the nation to have more power than the others

Berne is a De Jure capital since it's extremely important to Switzerland, but never a de facto capital as it's not officially recognised as one

The Statue of Liberty IS in New York. And that’s coming from a New Jersey resident. Liberty Island is an exclave of New York, and therefore a part of New York, drspite being in New Jersey waters. However, Ellis Island is mostly a part of New Jersey. This is because Ellis Island was also a NY exclave. However, NY wanted to expand the island and turned the island into the shape it is today. Then NJ sued NY. (Which I’m pretty sure is unconstitutional). Why? Because New York was illegally invading NJ by expanding their island over NJ waters. Consequently, the expanded part of the island was gaven to New Jersey, while the original island shape was still part of NY.

0:55 The Statue of Liberty is located on an island within the waters of New Jersey, however the land belongs to New York.

As someone from Detroit who has gone into the tunnel to Canada, technically you do need a passport, but if you have some other kind of documentation on you and not your passport, and you answer their questions accurately, they will let you into Canada without any problem. That’s just because the border security on the Canadian side are mostly nice about it.

Fun fact The great auk (Pinguinus impennis) was a flightless artic bird. It went extinct in 1852 and it was the first bird known as Penguin.

2:59 the Missouri River is just a part of the Mississippi River system, so it’s still technically the Mississippi.
3:09 Sources disagree on this, but I’ve found that generally, most reliable sources do rank the Nile as longer than the Amazon. This can vary though from source to source due to the difficulties in measuring river length.

2:30 the furthest north penguins live (excluding zoos) is Ecuador on the Galapagos, not Peru.

3:07 the Missouri River stops in Missouri where it joins the Mississippi, so you added a bunch of extra length on that map. However it is actually almost the same length as the Mississippi and even slightly more by some measurements. Rivers and coastlines are notoriously difficult to measure accurately and consistently so it is difficult to actually determine how these rivers or the Nile/Amazon rivers compare.

5:37 Mandarin Chinese has the most native speakers, but English still has the most total speakers counting second languages, which you should if the question is “most widely spoken”

8:01 Bro really said the language of “Spain” which as mentioned before, is only more common than English by excluding second language speakers.

Most people do not think Africa is the largest continent on the planet. The size of Africa has historically been understated if anything. I’ve never heard a single person suggest Africa was the largest continent.

0:52 is wrong: the Statue of Liberty is on Liberty Island which is an exclave of New York entirely surrounded by the waters of New Jersey. Part of Ellis Island is a similar exclave, except that it is mostly reclaimed land (that is, extending the island by filling in the surrounding water with rocks and sediment), and the reclaimed land is part of New Jersey.

Canada doesn’t just border the USA, it also borders France and Denmark if you count maritime borders

English is only the third most widely spoken language if you just consider native speakers.

If you consider non-native speakers English is more widely spoken than Mandarin

Love the video though!
