As Ann Barnes, our presenter, says, "This video contains more about your bowels than you may ever have wanted to know," and as the parent of a child with Trisomy 18, I wish I had had this information 14 years ago.

This information is not a substitute for your doctor's advice. Any ideas that interest you should be discussed with your child's health care provider as to the appropriateness for your child.

Very informative, I especially liked that you mentioned irritability as a result of constipation in children. I am a behavior therapist and work with children with this disorder as well as other developmental disorders and viewing this video helped me understand some of the biology behind complications with toilet training. As an adult, you certainly forget that toilet training may bring on anxiety, thus complicating the learning of the skill. Ive found holding the childs hand, singing, using calming voice while sitting on the potty does wonders to help relax and focus. The video was also a great reminder that toileting may also be more of a challenge due to the child having a lesser awareness of urgency due to the malfunctioning of his/her nervous system. Thanks for uploading, appreciate the information!
