There's an old saying "Before you allow yourself to be diagnosed with depression, make sure you aren't just surrounded by assholes.

Exactly. Once being in the second category, I was prescribed antidepressants and it just felt artificial. Like a false buoyancy. All of a sudden reality didn't match this feeling of ok-ness and it was even more clear that things were not ok. New goals, very clearly articulated plan of actions and daily/weekly steps towards goals, change of diet and begin working out helped way more.

We all need meaning/purpose in life with a healthy dose of human connection.

True depression is probably the worst emotion a human can experience. Just that existential black hole inside that sucks in all the light around you. Really bad stuff.

My best friend unalived herself last year. She tried so hard to get her life together. She worked so hard and she was actually a good friend. She just couldn't make herself successful and her parents treated her like a loser. She couldn't find love either. Its truly sad that people suffer like this and rarely do people care. I hate when people say that's the reality and we need to suck it up. No, thats wrong and statistically speaking, its impossible for everyone to be successful because the actual reality is that not everyone is smart or good looking or doesn't have trauma etc. Some people will inevitably fall through the cracks no matter how hard they try. We need to understand this and have compassion and empathy for one another. The millionaire who is a pos should not be looked at as a god while people who've gone through hell and stayed strong enough to remain good people are looked down at. We all need to change this disposition towards people.

In business, you have to learn to operate and stabilize your depression. This can sometimes last many months but you can break through it through perseverance.

Category 2. Meds made me crazier. Feeling okay in a very bad situation made it seem like I had even less of a hold on reality.

I'd been called "too sensitive" for my entire life. Attempting to over-correct for that, while also blocking 'danger' signals, made everything 3x worse.

As someone who has battled depression for multiple decades, and has now completely defeated it, I believe strongly that depression and anxiety come from simply doing and thinking about a large number of things that you don’t want to do or think about. Whether or not you have a successful life or not, if your days are full of activities that are not aligned with your soul, you will be depressed.

I'm in the "No Life" category and antidepressants make me even more depressed and also adds quite a bit of anger and aggression.

Wow, I fit the first category and you nailed it, and a close friend was in the second. They self terminated because the meds were no help.
Both of us were chronic pain sufferers

I was once second catogory and anti depressants probably saved my life. They arent the number 1 answer but they help you out the hole

What makes it even worse is when your in the second category, but you keep making progress, just to destroy it all with foolishness over and over.
Doomed to remain where you started.
Anxious to try again becauase you hurt people by accident in doing so, and guilt is a long lasting stain.

My brother is in that first category, I was in the second. I turned mine around with meditation and then followed discipline. My brother hasn’t turned his around but he’s too ashamed to get help. I feel for men that are caught in the darkest side of society’s view of male vulnerability

Ah this explains a lot, ive rejected the idea of medication. Until it became necessary and took a short term lil something to help but this is really informative i love JP x

So basically in one of the samples all regulating variables of depression are present so it’s most likely for the patient to be depressed due to physiological reasons and thus SSRIs will work, while the opposite is true for the other sample.

The first is obvious. the desired optimum was achieved, and now all of a sudden there is lack of ambition and motivion. Reward became achieved and the game restarts, but You may be 40-50 years, and then things may come to hard to achieve, the more elder You become.

My depression went away when I found out I was on the spectrum and got some support to better myself, which has driven myself to become productive and ultimately find ways to be fulfilled.
