Anne Frank was a childhood hero of mine— and remains a hero— for doing what so few twice her age and far more educated could ever do. She made an experience so horrific that it’s difficult to put into words relatable to people all over the world, especially children. WWII, that level of racism and disgust, the Holocaust, and even the idea of just mass-level conflict was foreign to me as a teen from a small town.

The simple writings of a young girl I had never met made it understandable, relatable, and horrific in a way that shocked me to my core. I recall watching the old Shelley Winters version of the movie and sobbing in front of my classmates, going home, and just reading everything I could find on her, her family, the Holocaust, and the war as a whole. Hell, I sat and asked my grandpa (a WWII vet) to tell me everything he could remember.

It’s just so rare to find someone who can move you with their words, someone who can reach a group of people so clearly and deeply. The fact she was a child— and writing only to herself— when she did so is just so profound. She’s a brilliant marker of history and should be celebrated as such 🤍

I have read, watched and listened to many movies, videos and documentaries on World War II. I will never forget this bleak part of history and the victims as well as those courageous people of all ages who put their lives on the line every day to help others.

Millions upon millions of people would respectfully disagree. I’m proud to be one of them.

Anne Frank was taken to Berglen Belsen and she was with her sister Margot and they both died. Otto was the only survivor among all of them. I went to Anne Frank house in Amsterdam and it was so surreal that she was actually there. So sad she died. RIP Anne Frank I read her dairy at the age of 12. She was very mature for her age and very young too.

I’ve always marveled at the fact that all the power and fury and might and metal of the Nazis Thousand Year Reich… was completely overshadowed by the simple diary of a 13 year girl, in just one generation. That HAS to be the ULTIMATE Insult to Hitler.

Read the diary again last year. In the back of your mind, you know what's gonna happen and it still hits hard as soon as you finish the diary

I was able to visit the Anne Frank house in June. It was an incredible experience to see the actual photos and pictures and clippings that she had hung on her wall. It was just so sad. Their hiding place was much bigger than I thought but still I can’t imagine never being able to leave.
I really wanted to go up into the attic and look out the same window as Anne and Peter but it’s blocked off.

This was heart breaking. See how when the Nazis arrived little changed.. At first. Then there was book burning and the people accepted it. Then registrations and the people accepted it. Eventually the most awful persecution and the people felt they couldn't speak up now.

We need to learn from history when there are calls to limit free speech etc.

15 year olds today don't write diaries and read books anymore. They are obsessed with updating their Instagram stories and upload silly Tiktok videos on the Internet.

R.I.P Anne and all 6 million victims of pure, unadulterated evil. Sadly the lessons have still not been learned.

Reading her diary when I was in Junior High School had a great impact on me. I have visited the Anne Frank museum twice, it’s a sad but moving place. It’s so sad that they almost made it thru the war 😔

Thank you for such an excellent documentary. I believe the diary to be one of the most valuable primary sources in WW2 history.
