I’ve owned an international fund for more than 15 years and it really has lagged. Thanks for the video as now I’m really thinking about pairing it back since it 20% of my portfolio.

I think a little international exposure is good to help mitigate risk. However, I wouldn't invest 20 percent of my portfolio in international stocks. Only about 5 to 10 percent.

When the US economy gets to an all time low, will the US stocks be safe? From what I see, we are in debt to Japan, China & U.K and definitely wont be able to pay back... Once a major crash happens in the US, will international companies then take over? Someone please help explain what they predict will happen in the next 5-10 years of US Stocks

Well.. clearly you should hold international stocks.. and of course without knowing the future nobody knows how much... 20-50% seems reasonable based on past studies and current market weightings, and you can make arguments for more or less all day long. But its the future and NOBODY knows... The easiest way to do all this is with a fund like VT ( Vanguard Total world stock / market cap weighted) which currently holds about 40% in international stocks from all over the world... If internationals do well, they will comprise more of the fund and you will own more. If they do bad, you will own less but always having exposure to them with diversification; which is always a good idea... no rebalancing or thinking/guessing involved with a fund like VT cause it does it all for you. For 7 basis points of cost! $7 for every $10, 000 invested; and its Vanguard so come on easy decision. Buy it / hold it for decades, go live your life and come back with a crap ton of money. Easy

My international exposure is only around 5%. I was on my way to building it up close to the usually recommended allocation, but then I came across an article that mentioned international almost always under performed the US market. Fortunately, I was mostly break even when I trimmed it back.
