Raj is a bit exaggerated but in average indian household, our family pays for everything till we graduate or till we want to study (even if we do Phd). My friends still getting money while doing PhD in engineering. I went for a job after my engineering and my parents used to send me money till I started sending them money from my own salary. That way they know that I'm having enough now. Even I want money today they will send me money not as a loan but as a gift, and if they ask me I will send even the last penny from my bank account and won't ask them why they want it. In indian family our parents and us are one unit and it helps alot.
