Native trees and plants. Wherever you live. I planted a native forest in my yard (and alley) 7 years ago in WA state USA. No ground prep. 400+ plants on 5, 000 sq. ft. 5" of med/large bark spread over entire lawn. 75 native species: 24 Alaska cedars, 8 Shore pines, 2 Douglas firs, 2 Red cedars, 6 Vine maples, 4 Douglas maples, Red Flowering currants, Oregon grape (3 species), Evergreen huckleberry, Black capped raspberries, trailing blackberry, salal, goldenrod and much more. Lots of bird food and habitat now. I water my new forest in the dry summer months to get the roots in good. The forest is 12-15 degrees F. cooler on hot days. I pulled weeds for 2 summers, but the forest won. It is growing very fast. Good luck with yours.
