In 2007 Lululemon launched a line of clothing made out of a "cutting-edge" material but, was it all it was cut out to be?

Haha I worked at Lulu around that time, and I remember when they were training me on the Vitasea material, they were like, “don’t make any health claims about the material, we’ve changed a lot of the wording on the tags to be more in alignment with regulations. If anybody asks about some of the old claims just tell them to refer to the new tags and the information on the website. Do not comment on the old messaging, just read off the tag on the clothes.”

Also, all the floor staff are rebranded as “educators” 🤦‍♀️🙄

I had a shirt made of vitasea as I worked there when it came out. We all rolled our eyes at the seaweed part, but the shirt was very thin, soft and comfortable.

Sidebar: i always like to imagine Lululemon as a pokemon evolution. Starting with lemón then lulemon then evolves into lululemon.

They should've said that it can cure cancer and can solve world hunger

I was working at Lululemon in vancouver during this time and remember the cover-up we had to do. one day we got a memo from head office to remove all the vita-sea items and they sent a special dumpster to dispose them into. one day the dumpster disappeared and no one ever mentioned them again lol

I'm not surprised a big company lied, but claims like this are so outrageous and easy to disprove to get into expensive legal trouble over. It's such a dumb naive mistake for a big company.

I worked for a company that manufactured some goods to LL. At the time those materials where marketed to us with all those properties, not by LL but by the fabric creators. And here I’m not talking about LL specifically, but those materials were used and considered for many other brands that we had at the time. So It was not an scam by the clothing brands, more like naiveness at a time where sustainability in fibers was a very big deal in the industry.

They weren't the only ones to try something like this, either. Salt crystals, spider silk, coconut fiber, dried jellyfish, and even "thorium string" (thunderf00t has a wonderful video on thorium bullshit) have found themselves in a shitton of dumb products over the years.

After shopping at Lulu for over a decade, this year I actually have decided to stop shopping there. I don’t like the style anymore, the feel, and most importantly, I learned that it can be toxic to wear

you could do about a hundred more of these on Lulu

I used to supply GFRG pieces.. our most expensive builds, to LuLuLemon or however it’s spelt. No one will care.. but they handed over blank checks and gave me a list of what they wanted and by when and if I got that done I could charge the higher end or normal without any issues.

A company that focused on growth, can’t be giving the clothing enough time. And at those prices I’m good. Vuori is maybe a bit boring but they make great gear and their warranty is Patagonia level great.

Avoid Lululemon unless you’re gifting it to a partner or someone who’s into them. I’d opt for some OR gear ahead of them. And the ABC pants look like some Levi’s/Dockers khakis I’d have had when I was 13 in boarding school lol. I’m not wearing that to jog and run around town.

Anything that’s overpriced is a scam. All you had to do was look at Lululemon’s price tags. People pay more to support their fragile egos.

Their new shoes are a scam too. Watch Rose Anvils video on it

Imagine! A trendy company that markets to middle-aged moms lying about just how crunchy their products actually are. What has this world come to?
