Today I’m talking about Matilda, written by Roald Dahl in 1988 and 1996 movie adaptation starring and directed by Danny DeVito. The story follows a remarkable little girl named Matilda who is unusually brilliant and doesn’t seem to quite fit in with her family. She finds refuge in books, and later, at school, where she meets a teacher who helps her realize her full potential.

Matilda was the first book I picked myself when I was around 8. I related to Matilda so much - a huge bookworm, regularly bullied (althought by other kids, not adults) and got angry and desired to get even, regardless of all the adults who just told me to roll with it - Both the book and the movie has a special place in my heart, and actually got teary eyed once or twice while watcing the musical

Good job! But you left a very important part out. In the books Matilda loses her powers because she isn't frustrated anymore

Matilda isn’t one of my favorites of Dahl’s but I still like it. I don’t know if Dahl himself would’ve or wouldn’t of liked the movie since it came out six years after his death. He might’ve hated the American setting considering the book was set in England. Danny DeVito is great as Harry Wormwood and Pam Ferris is great as the Trunchbull.

As much as i loved this movie growing up. I can see some flaws with it now. I think the problem is the TONE of it is very "Fantasy child fun wonder world" when in reality it should focus more on the grim parts of society, abuse pattern and overall overcoming them. Just me though, i know its technically a childrens story, but i feel you can still make it apply in a family film in someway.
