Why was the system telling people of the view of the Arcturus flyby if everyone is asleep?

Arcturus is a star I have observed and seen through my telescope. Seeing it depicted on screen in this film was pretty cool to see.

The Avalon travels at 0.5c, and it has been out for 31 years, so at most it's 15.5 light years away from Earth, as Arcturus is almost 38 light years away. Also they would die if they pass by the star at this distance
ANYWAY THIS SCENE IS COOL

Such a great chemistry between these two, I hope we can see them together in more movies

To see another star (rather than the Sun) up close and die - the goal of life is fulfilled

Best scene i have ever watched soo far!

The diameter of Arcturus is around 25 times the one of our sun. A ship flying .5c (half the speed of light) would take 2 minutes to cross the diameter of Arcturus. Depending on the distance of the ship during the slingshot maneuver and the number of revelations it would take between 15 minutes to several hours for the maneuver.

Yes, scientifically incorrect. But it is still a good scene.

They would literally go blind instantly and they their eyes might even melt, they would die from the extremely high temperatures, they would get lethal doses of radiation from this, Arcturus is too far away for this scene to make sense. Other then these many problems, good scene!

Imagine the pod didn't fail and the observatory addressing literally nobody because nobody's conscious

At 0:39 the portion of the surface of the star should appear totally flat considering the dimensions of the ship. From the movie it looks like is just few hundred kilometers in diameter.

The way the module they are in is rotating, the view would go on the opposite direction lol. Also, the ship would disintegrate from heat exposure. Still a cool scene though

The main problem I have with this scene is that the fly-by is announced throughout the ship. Why would it do that? Why would Arthur be activated? Why would the food dispensors be active and ready? Everything would be powered down because literally every living being on the ship is in statis. Maybe the little cleanup robots would be active to take care of accumulated dust, but that's about it.

This is the most gosebumps scene ever made, but we need this in expanded version of 15 minutes, please :)

This ship couldn't survive a meteor but could pass right next to a star without a scratch?! aight...

This would be a once in 10, 000 lifetimes viewing event. If I was asleep on that ship, I'd want it to wake me up from my hibernation pod just for this moment. After that I'll go back to sleep again.

This is when humans are able to engineer technology that can withstand and harness the energy of the sun, i.e. to shield, protect, and energize the ship. In other words, a force field fed by the energy of any star. Pseudo-scientist may say no. But I say, "Yes. It's possible". Don't be an animal, be human[e].

"Attention. You may wish to proceed to a viewing area. " No one should be awake during the entire journey lol.
