I don't have a problem with body modifications unless they're potentially damaging procedures done on children. An adult getting all the tattoos they want--fine. Stretching out a girl's neck to the detriment of her physical functioning--not fine. I'm glad younger women are starting to move away from this practice.

I read about this practice several years ago in a women's magazine but the article only mentioned Africa. It did say that it's damaging to the spinal cord since the rings push the body parts downward.

Also it looked like the women were getting strangled.

As someone who takes off their underwire bra the minute I get home and someone who can't wear turtlenecks because they make me feel like I'm choking, the neck rings sound unbearable. Then again, I have 13 piercings and a couple of tattoos.

Oh! Now that you are at it, I would like to watch a video about the history of head deformation, such as Mayans or Egyptians molding infants’ heads to fit into certain beauty standards of their culture!

I remember seeing an advertisement in comic books for a book called "Tall Up". The book offered exercises to make you taller by elongating your neck (without the rings). Supposedly, this makes you taller. In reality, it just pushes your clavicle down.

i think yall neglect the fact that the reason people cringe at neck elongation isnt because it's a body mod, it's because our necks are a very sensitive part of the body, the idea of doing something to your neck that could hurt it is scary, not that it's weird or ugly

I knew about the practice, but with this being front and center, I started thinking how this could be done, seeing how you can’t add vertebrae, initially wonder if they stretched the cartilage, but you managed to clarify.

We travelled to a village in Thailand on the border with Myanmar where a tribe lived that practiced this. They were extremely isolated and had fled across the border to avoid the fighting. IIRC, this process started in this tribe around when girls were reaching puberty. Rings are added slowly over years. It was explained to us that while the neck appeared to stretch and lengthen, it was actually the clavicle being deformed by the rings that gives the appearance of the long neck. The sloping shoulders is a sign. For generations these people have looked at this as a sign of female beauty. The tribe welcomed visitors because they could sell things and make some money that even the most remote people still need to get by.

Please make a video about bushido! I read a really interesting book, I believe oleg benesch was the author? And it gave a detailed history of how bushido was invented as a tourist concept basically, and it evolved into people thinking samurai actually used bushido when it's actually a modern word (early 1900s, iirc).

There are some cultural practices that should die out and this is one them, like foot binding and female circumcision.

If a consenting adult chooses to undergo the elongation process, that's their decision but it is not acceptable to deform the bodies of children in this way!
