Why I stopped using PSVR2 in Gran Turismo 7...

PlayStation VR is for sure the easiest and most fun I've had on VR so far, but I've found myself not using the headset as much as I'd hoped. In terms of Gran Turismo 7 at least! The question is, does PSVR 2 make you faster in Gran Turismo 7? I tried the olympics event once more and also built myself an amazing drift Nissan S15 Silvia to find out.

I cannot play GT7 flatscreen anymore, once you play in VR it’s hard to go back

I like how it shakes in VR makes me feel like I’m driving

Here is a good tip: don’t always shift down to first in the slower corner because the extra up shifts later will slow you down

When it shakes on screen it makes it look realistic. GT7 non PSVR is far to sterile! Watching it with VR brings your videos to life.

A battle for P9 in VR is 100x more fun than a flat screen battle for P2, straight facts. Its the journey not the destination.

Watching Theo try and drift is like watching someone stand on an upturned plug. It’s rough as hell

I also did the Olympics time trail on the tv screen and then vr. I had a similar experience as you had. However, after some continued seat time and adjustment (spatial awareness and so on) I ended up being a full second faster with VR. 1.18.4 on the TV screen using the upshift method through corners. 1.17.4 with VR not using the upshift method. One thing to note, omg was I sweating at the end of that experience.

Turn your monitor off. The PSVR2 cameras are freaking out because of the screen.

What GT7 VR2 needs is the option for full on virtual cockpits. Imagine using the 2 controllers to grip the steering wheel, shift gears (or flick paddles) pull up the hand break, switch the hazards on and flip off racers as you pass. Maybe in the future they’ll also let us open our car doors and have fist fights with the rear ending opponents at the first chicane of monza.

You'll get much better in VR if you race online, and get to know the car/track combo amd hit your braking markers. If you picked out a braking spot and hit it every time, it's easier to brake later to determine your limit

Do a night run in Tokyo with the PSVR2. All ima say is, best driving experience of your life.

if you dont drive VR usually its always going to feel odd jumping to VR. Your spatial awareness is thrown off as the 2d camera is placed perfectly center of the hood versus in the actual drivers seat.

I've did there same experiment. I've started with VR and my results were around 1:20-1:21. Then I've started to play without VR and have improved to 1:19.5 and was not able to do better anymore for an hour. Then I've switched back to VR and was showing better results and ended with 1:17.7. Without VR it was easier to do progress at the beginning as from cockpit when in VR (specifically in this car) you have not so good observability. Moreover, in VR you get tired sooner. But after reaching my limits without VR, switching to VR allowed me to sense speed better, feel corners, feel distances better, allowed me to be more precise. So, for my case VR worked better for lap times

Ngl, I kinda wanna see Theo play the older GT games like GT 1, GT3 A-Spec, and so on, on the emulator.

PSVR 2 is absolutely faster and more consistent but it does take some adjustment. If you play for years on flat screen, you obviously are used to all the cues of that view and they are different to the ones in VR. You're comparing thousands of hours of experience to dozens here LOL

Especially when trying a new car/track combo, you're instantly faster on the first laps because of the better depth perception of VR. If you actually stick with it, your potential is so much higher for the same reason.

Its amazing in VR. Cant play any racing game without VR

Ok here's a bit of a tip whenever you're driving a f1 or gr1 car. Never shift down to first on slow corners and also never slow down below 50mph because it'll cause your car to spin out really easily as well as try to be a bit more gentle with the throttle. It's not like a road car when you can stomp on the gas immediately
