I want to make a small comment here about a common misunderstanding. MKV and MP4 are not video codecs like x264 vs the far more efficient x265 (HEVC). They are containers and could feasibly hold any number of different media streams within them. I have often heard people claiming that one is better than the other which is idiotic as neither has any impact on video quality. In point of fact MKV is generally a more flexible container and is able to hold a greater range of media streams and associated Metadata.

As an analogy, it is like two people arguing about whose lunch is better based on the type of lunch box they own.

What is vlc anyway? We use MPC HC with K-lite codec pack for playback and Handbrake to transcode videos. These are the professional ways to do stuff.

Hey man can I please have some help? I’m having an issue with my hard drive. So long story short I sold my old Vega 56 to someone through facebook. He claimed it didn’t work and he opened up a case against me. PayPal told him to send me the card back. I have a 5600x/3060ti combo in my system. My pc has been running great with no issues. Yesterday I get the vega 56 back from the guy and put it in my system and the card works. I put it under load, play games etc. everything is all good. So I take it out of my system and put my 3060ti back in and it just goes to the bios. I can’t boot to windows now and my hard drive isn’t even showing up anymore in the system. I unplugged everything and plugged it back in, cleared the cmos, used different sata ports and nothing is happening. I’m worried that I lost everything on my hard drive because I haven’t backed it up recently. I took the hard drive out of my system and the fan inside of it is spinning but no matter what I do it isn’t being read in my system. It’s doing exactly what yours did in the video with the asrock motherboard where it just boots to the bios and won’t let me into windows. For me though the hard drive was my only drive so I lost everything. Is there any way to fix this?

Why need to convert? Both formats are containers, right? Conversion of video formats means to re-encode the video with a different codec.

Video for Youtube HD will downgrade a 1080 video to 720. HOWEVER, I noticed at 4:53 there's a setting that says MPEG 4 1080p TV/device. THAT WORKED! Just a little

I watched your video and followed along on my computer but the file that VLC created for me was only 1 kb in size and non-usable. The file I'm trying to convert to MP4 is a .SNX file which is the type of file created by Uniden security cameras. So far, I can only view them on the Uniden monitor that came with the system. Do you know how to convert a .SNX file to, MP4?

I rather have mkv than mp4.... you'll lose chapters, multiple audio channels, embedded subtitles, ect. with mp4
