What is the difference between remission and cure in cancer treatment?

There is no one definition for remission. However, doctors will use this term after they have treated cancer and there is no sign of cancer on any available diagnostic test. But there is still a significant risk that cancer can come back in the future.

We typically use the term cure when there is a very low chance that cancer will come back after a certain time point.
