I converted a bike 2 .5 years ago and have just passed 11000 KM one of the best things I ever done. Great fun and exercise all round, and cheap as peanuts.

Putting the controller on the battery will definitely not help heat issues in my opinion

Just wanted to say thank-you for the videos p1 / p2 /p3 ....I bought one of the Andy Kirby ebike kits and followed your instructions to the letter ....I now have an amazing ebike ...very grateful.... so much fun and makes commuting a breeze. The instructions were perfect. I built it on a Carerra Helcat 29" frame and everything fitted perfectly. I don't think I would have had the confidence to build it without your videos ...thank you .

I prefer the controller in a bag separate from battery, so I can remove battery when I lock up the bike outside

Best thing i ever did, even 80 mile trips are not a problem . I made 4 in the end all on scrap bikes, only one problem on a sharp burr where the wire leaves the wheel..my next project is to fix that . After 4000 miles i would say triple check wire abrasion points and reinforce, Bikes are surprisingly jiggly and sometimes the cabling is not particularly hard wearing. Personally, i use batteries in a rear pannier still wrapped in their original foam packing to protect them from an inevitable fall . Means swapping and charging batteries is simple . I also soldered on XT60 connectors for long life and good connectivity.

Hello mate, I’ve just finished my first e-bike build and I cannot thank you enough for these tutorials, youve cover every nuance which I would’ve otherwise struggled on. I’ve also been watching your other content which is also very entertaining. Keep it up man and thank you again

You've knocked loads of these up recently! My first ebike was a 1500w hub. Great fun. My advice to anyone building is hydraulic brakes are a must, cable just doesn't cut it. As well as two torque arms/ plates either side to be safe. Newton himself said for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Keep it up Steve.

It is really nice to see retired stormtroopers with positive hobbies. So many end up as bantha feed.

Actually one of my favourite bikes you’ve built couldn’t tell you how many time I’ve watched it

Really digging your content lately brother. I really want to get into doing vids like this myself and open my own shop. Any advice on how to get started?! All thanks for the hours you and Andy put in to this hard work to motivate me. I have now built an 5000W Enduro E-Bike and three mountain bikes (one fat tire hub 500W and two mid-drive 750W & 1000W). Cheers!

only issue is its illegal for uk roads and u might have ur bike confiscated as its motor is over the 250w legal limit and especally if u get into accident u wont be covered and may have problems paying outta ur own pocket for accident which may be very costly apart from that its grt build

Great build but just one question, dont you have to remove the battery to charge it?

I was so pleased to see you using flush cut side cutters in the earlier video of this build, then you used scissors in this video. Cutting the cable tie tails off with scissors leaves a nice razor sharp end on the stub of cable tie, perfect to cut yourself to pieces on later. The tails need to be cut as close to the head of the cable tie as possible to avoid those evil razor sharp booby traps. Been there done that and got the scars.
Great video, I’m about to do a conversion myself, I’ve put this series of vids on save to refer to while do my build.

Do u have a preferred best practice for these batteries mate...

Do u charge the battery while on the bike or always remove it?
Do u allow all power from battery to fully dissipate, before you charge to full again? Or keep it topped up as u go?
Do u always use the 'red power-kill switch' on the battery when u are done for the day or only when u are charging?

Again, I wish you had a Discord server...

so with the 3 wires, does this mean that the bike has regen braking so that it can charge the battery a little when braking?

Nice one Steve I've watched loads of build videos but you always give mega useful tips that other vlogs fail to give 👍

Hey mate, just wanted to say you have a really good way of explaining things and showing how to do them, no nonsense. Cheers lad.

For the last six months I’ve had an overheating controller till recently. I couldn’t Accelerate for too long as the wires from the motor would get really hot then go into the junction box then to the controller to the point the 3 wires got melted a little which are now insulated with tape so ive been going easy. Now since ive a new battery base as the old one broke from a crash, I also rearranged the wires in the bag, unplugging phaze Connector and reconnected it. I used a proper crimping tool to put the Anderson pole connectors in the plugs then on my new base wires No soldering needed and now the phaze and controller runs flawless. I also have a new 21 amp hour battery instead of the old 20 ah that flew off the bar last year due to not being locked Dow aha. was well gutted lucky there was no fire. Now with all the upgrades It goes as it should and It hardly ever gets hot and i can run the 2000 watts happily no over heat In phaze and just gets warm so I can throttle for much longer I’m so chuffed . No more over heating worry. I must of done something right. Aha 👍

Thank you for giving me the motivation to build my first e bike, your laymen term intuition is just outstanding...subbed and shared

The best of this kit is connecting the cables correctly: you can not miss it. The bag for the cables was a great idea, so clean look now!
