I don't know why I overlooked this channel for so long, but recently I've been binging these videos about different math books, and I absolutely love them. I have been self-studying mostly using the internet but your videos make me want to start collecting physical math books. I also really love hearing all your insights about mathematics, and about studying mathematics, and simply about life in general. I really appreciate you, and this channel.

We all must find a way out of choice paralysis when it comes to mathematics. There are far too many resources at our disposal and even if we select one and focus on it, there is often far too much mathematics in that single book to satisfactorily digest it all. This video and others like it, introducing a book and briefly perusing its contents, serve as another testament to the existence of such vast amounts of quality material out there. Watching these videos certainly generates motivation to enter into these materials. The only problem is that there's just so many math resources out there. I like what math sorcerer often suggests is to just do at least one problem a day, any problem. Probably choice paralysis occurs during the idleness of having yet begun to study, and so just forcing yourself to do one problem, any problem, is a great way to get out of that "planning to study" phase and start actually doing mathematics.

Btw, B. Demidovich had written an amazing book on numerical mathematics called "computational mathematics". MIR editions were amazing and most of their books are gems. Thank you for the review.

0:30 I think Boris Demidovich is well-known name for many russian speaking university students. We used his problem book for Matematical anaysis course.

Mir publishers are the ones that brought us the gems of Yakov Perelman.

This book like many other mathematics produced by MIR publishers were considered staples for engineering and physics students studying in the USSR and other eastern bloc countries. The five volume higher mathematics by V.I. Smirnov was gobbled up by French students studying mathematics. Foreign students studying in the USSR readily sold these books to French students at a very nice price.

Books from MIR Publishers are really good books. Of course Mir does not exist anymore, hence these books are rare and expensive. Nauka Publishers was another one.

Thank you for this review, there is a similar book by Vladimir Smirnov: a course on higher mathematics in 5 parts that covers almost all the maths needed in physics

Is that book something that could be submitted to the Internet Archive for scanning?

How many whole numbers are there? Infinity. How many decimals are there betwixt 0 and 1? Infinity. How many decimals are there betwixt any two decimals? Infinity. Therefore, there are infinitely infinite infinities.
