AT&T faces thousands of complaints about overcharging for services

A CBS News investigation has uncovered over 4,000 complaints against AT&T and DirecTV related to deals, promotions and overcharging in the past two years. Customers who try to opt out of their contracts are forced to pay early termination fees and are not allowed to file lawsuits. Anna Werner has the story.

I'm an ex at&t direct tv retention specialist with some tips to help you get out of a contract if u were lied to. There's actually a 10 day clause with directv if the sales rep lied about price and retention can't fix it. They're supposed to waive the etc. If they refuse, tell them you're moving to an apartment that doesn't allow a dish, have someone else call and say you're deceased (they won't ask for proof), tell them you're in the military and being relocated, or tell them you're moving into a friend's house who already has directv... they will waive the cancellation fees. Make sure the rep notes the account the reason you cancelled. You're welcome.

Same here, ATT is a consumer nightmare. Long wait periods for customer service. They are aggressive and avoid answering your questions. Once AT&T took over Direct TV, it's been bad. Poor service. Bills are high and sometimes double bill you a month. Be careful and seek alternatives.

You can’t trust AT&T any longer for the service either you get through promotion etc. it tries to hook up up with sweetly deals and once hooked up you get trapped. I have also in same situation due to over-charges and mostly poor quality of customer services. It’s almost everyone from customer services to supervisors get involved in fraudulent activities. Please don’t get trapped as I have gone through much frustrations for overcharges and issues not taken care of by the customer services. Best thing is get the YouTube free as there are lots of things to watch in one way or the others if you have time!

I was just about to sign up with them. My sister is going through this at this very moment. I am in the room with her why she’s an argument with one of the representatives. She’s talking to the third representative as we speak. She didn’t get what she wanted and they don’t want to make her whole. I will NOT be signing up with AT&T and I’m’m going to tell everyone I know not to sign up with them. Somebody’s going to come along and Knock AT&T and Comcast out of the box

if they are not honoring their contract, then it is null and void and that opens the door for any type of lawsuit, including class actions.

I work with at&t. Before we install services, there are terms and conditions that states promotional offers are only for 12 months and while the contract is good for 24 months.

They hit me with almost 65 dollars in fees!! I pay almost 200.00 for something i was told 120.00

they also kept not charging me for my direct tv and then charging me late fees once my cable got cut off without me knowing. so i cancelled my direct tv and them they claimed i never sent the box back and are charging me for that! I HATE THEM

This is common practice. I was a past employee and brought the complaints to top brass. I was fired.

This "contract" should be considered null and void if it sells away people's rights. Customers should not have to pay one red cent for terminating a contract that the company efaulted on the terms of. It is basic contract law that says that any party that breaks their end of the deal then forfeits their indemnity, so this crap should not be holding up in court.

They overcharged me for internet
They told me 49.99 a month but when the bill showed up, I had to pay $60.85 a month and it is just a normal speed, so I cancelled it
