Commercial breaks taken from an episode of "Father Dowling Mysteries", as well as part 5 of the syndicated miniseries "The Thorn Birds" on United Television NBC affiliate KMOL-TV in San Antonio, Texas (now Sinclair's WOAI-TV).

KMOL, particularly during the 80s and early 90s and under the direction of longtime program director Jack Carroll, was notorious for pre-empting significant portions of the NBC primetime and weekend lineup, replacing what he felt was "poorer performing" programs from the network with movies and other special programming. So "The Thorn Birds" was replacing two hours of primetime that night.

Some of this was also due to group-bought programming, such as movie packages, from parent United intended for the chain's independent stations (almost all of their stations were of this type; they only owned two network affiliates: KMOL and ABC affiliate KTVX in Salt Lake City). But some of this was bought on a group basis, so KMOL was made to air it.

After Carroll retired in 1994, KMOL dialed back the pre-emptions of NBC network considerably, and now (as WOAI) clears the entire network lineup and mostly in-pattern.
