KENS/CBS Commercial Breaks, 1/18/1994

Показать описание
Commercial breaks taken during an episode of "The Young and the Restless" on CBS affiliate KENS serving San Antonio, Texas.
At the time a Harte-Hanks station, the station was their last remaining television station, after once serving as the flagship of a sizable station group in the 70s and 80s. Harte-Hanks sold their remaining media assets, primarily newspapers, to the E.W. Scripps Company in 1997.
Scripps kept the newspapers but flipped KENS to the A.H. Belo Corporation immediately, as Belo had long desired for a San Antonio presence and saw this as their chance. In exchange, Scripps received the Food Network and cash.
Belo was bought out by the Gannett Company in 2013, and in 2015, the broadcast assets were spun out into a new company called TEGNA, which owns the station now.
While we don't get to see a news open (unfortunately), KENS at this point was in the middle of a major image refresh, and the longtime news theme and logo it had used since the early 80s, during the station's glory days of dominance, was on its way out. Most of the in-show news graphics aside from the opens (which continued to be the same CGI ones in use since about 1990) had been updated to a style meant to resemble CBS' NFL graphics at the time, and those can be seen in newsbreaks here. Those graphics would form the basis of the station's major refresh which came later that year, and resulted in the retirement of the "Clearly the One" news theme and open.
